Thread: Artisan Missions for real

I was surprised when I took my first Artisan mission; I had to pick up fake components to make a fake item -- essentially a delivery mission with a crafting component. Not bad, but I'd like to see something more involving.

How about if an Artisan mission checked to see what you could make, and then said "Make 3 of these, and deliverthem to X." Then you'd have the satisfaction of hunting for components, making a real item, delivering it, and perhaps getting a sayline specific to that item: "Oh, aNemoidian Birdcage! Now I have a place to put my Nemoidan Parrot!" Maybe you could even get a bonus if you experiment your item up to a high value. Or maybe your client would be so satisfied he'd cook up another mission on the spot: "You do good work. I'll pay you double to make another one and bring it to my brother in Moenia."

And imagine if factions gave these out... "We need a shipment of 15 CDEF Rifles delivered to our Commander near such-and-such battlefield, pronto!" The faction may even get a tiny advantage during that battle. Now that would be cool...

This is the kind of thing I would like to see with artisan missions too. What's everyone else think?

I like the faction idea, it does make sense. You could make unifroms, or weapons, or even food to be brought to the 'front-line'. That would be cool, becuase anybody with a generic crafting device can do the missions right now. Make it more artisan only, like bounty hunter.

This would definitely be all good...but how sad that it may never come to be.

There is hope though. When the new expansion comes out, whenever that is, we'll be able to make output governor's and attuenment grids and deliver then across the galaxy only to get paid 700 credits.

Also you need to imagine a critical fail when doing the final craft for a starship (if they ever implement that). Wouldn't you be pissed.

No, I don't think I would. Crit Fails are part of the profession and part of the skill tree. One of the cooler side-effects of the component system is that you get XP for every component, so you can fail on the final build and still get lots of XP in the process. When I fail, I get to build again and get more XP.

As for pricing, the system probably keeps track of what items sell for, on average, across each server (man, I'd love to see those stats). It could set the reward for your item to be 75-100% of that average plus an appropriate"mission" reward.

Please Please Please!! This is the most interesting idea for artisan missions. I've been doing them steadily for a month and a half, running from Moenia to Deeja Peak (1300 creds per) and I am sick of them!! I love being an artisan, but the missions really bite. I'd love the challenge, such as it would be. The artisan missions as they are are nearly worthless. I find myself spacing out as I do them. I bet that doesn't happen to bounty hunters. Something must be done. Bianca, work your magic.

I totally agree with this idea, it would give purpose to all the starting Artisan's out there and make life easier on them as they try to start out (and so they won't have to pick up marksman just to do destroy missions for cash).

Artisan crafting missions = boring but easy money

Awesome idea. That is exactly what I envisioned when I heard of Artisan missions for the first time but was disappointed with what I received.

Hve to agree. I would like to see crafting missions more in line with the destroy missions on the explorer terms. Make x items and deliver them to y.

One idea might be to sell a droid (my other passion!) or provide a private station for artisans that can take similar items and package them up into psuedo-crates. You don't get to use them for parts needingidentical sub-parts, but it would be really nice if we could charge someone to take those 15 cdef rifles and package them up. Of course, they would be 'damaged' from the industrial packaging process so that they all take the average of the items attributes... (or lower for balance)

Yes, I like this idea (had it myself at one point). I think that a bonus set up if the items were of X quality.

I do see an issue of the NPC just randoml pulling items from inventory. What if he pulled your highly experimented CDEF rifle rather than one of the 3 you were told to make. They would have to impement a trading interface.

*smile* DAOC style missions.. yep, and you just drag the result onto the NPC for that buttload of copper, I mean, credits As a matter of fact, as an imp,I got FACTION points (like 5) for doing 2 survey missions from imp NPCs that had randomly spawned out in the wilds of naboo. Alot of wandering NPCs will give you artisan crafting missions, but they generally pay horribly, and require far moe running around than the city missions. I have always aborted those missions, but for some reasonI took these 2 survey ones. They needed special metal of a certain percentage, to help out the imperial cause. Still had horrible payout (500 cr per), but at least it was a change of pace. The faction payoff was nice, even though an avg delivery mission for me, nets about 3 times that faction...

This is a good idea.

One thing that could be added to it is for the items being made have to be in a narrow functionallity range or effectiveness so the person would have to expeiment with different material to acheive the range, It would help the noobs learn and the experienced should already know what material to use to acheive the goals. The missions could be bases on your experieince levels and whether you are a chef, tailor, arch., WS or armorer, etc. sort of like the kill and destroy missions are now.
