Thread: Armor Slicing in the CURB

I've spent a bit of time examining armor slicing and its effects on TC-Ep3 with a Master AS / Master Smuggler. The results are interesting, to say the least, and they have some profound implications for business operation post-CURB.

Basic Results

  • All randomness has been eliminated from armor slicing.

  • Slicing increases resists in all scenarios, and all resists on a piece of armorare increased by the same additive amount.

  • Increased resists result in increased hindrances.

  • The slice increase is solely dependent upon the "general protection" level of the armor and the type of core used.

  • Theexpression for the additive amount upon slicing is-0.25*(GP) + CORE, where

    • GPis the numerical armor rating for the general protection

    • CORE is approximately 623 for Basic, 1260 for Standard, and 1892 for Advanced

Practical Implications

  • If you don't sell sliced armor now -- start looking for a smuggler. Because slicing is now totally predictive, and because the added hindrances on production armor will be relatively minor for masters with full hindrance mitigation, everyone will want sliced armor. There are no significant drawbacks, and telling your customers to find a smuggler to give the final added step in increasing resists is likely a good way to lose customers.

  • If you sell sliced armor now -- be prepared to change your business model.

  • Because slicing is dependent on general protection, the best way to figure out what your post-slice resists will be is to make an unlayered bicep or bracer. The environmental resists will be your general protection value. Plug that into the equation and get your slice increase. With the purely additive layering system, you can also use an unlayered bicep or bracer to figure out the post-slice results of any layer combination.

  • Slicing actually seems to be the best way to mitigate the yin/yang effect of layers. Due to the system of diminishing returns, you do not get as much bang for your buck on the highest resist when slicing.

One interesting note -- all armor gotten from the blue frogs on TC-Ep3 were considered to have been made wtih advanced cores, regardless of the level specified for it. That really threw me off when I got a +1330 Slice Delta from Basic Assault Armor from the frogs.

If anyone's interested in methodology or actual numbers, I can include them later. I'll assume that most folks can live without my spreadsheets.

Hello Smugglers! I made this post for the Armorsmith forum, but because it specifically involves slicing, I figured it might be of interest over here, too, particularly the formula for armor slice increase.

That is great info, I'm sure Wes would like to include it in the ongoing slice thread for the CU. Be prepared to post it again, there.

We appreciate the hard numbers you presented, and would like to see more of those numbers. It'll help us educate players who don't know the difference. (as we do now with the slicing percentages, and the master bonus, etc.)

If you get a chance, jump over to the CU slicing thread and check those numbers against yours. It'd be interesting to see.

Nifty. I had heard word though that they were making slicing 'more controled' Though that orrigionally seemed to imply that you could pick a resist/encumberance slice and a speed/damage slice on the wepons.

Of course it turned out to be nothing of the sort.

Well, I suppose it IS nice that armor slicing is completely predictable, but it IS a bit...ummm...dull now.
