Thread: May have to give up armorsmith after CU

I was looking at the new armor and how much of a pain its going to be to craft it. Lots of new named resources that I really dont feel like stocking up on again. I have collected resources since launch and have mostly all the best ones I needed for the current armor. Looking at all the required resources is making my head spin. You need 3 cores for a chest and each core can have 4 layers. Then you have all the other misc resources just to make one item. Its going to be a huge job for armorsmiths after the CU. Think I will drop armorsmith because its just too much for me. I want to log in and play a game not log in and work. The new armor is sure to cost a ton. Oh not to mention everyone will be requesting certain armor and colors so it makes our job even worse. I cant imagine factory runs. Its going to take forever. Sigh, my profession has just been made into a second job. Doc/Rifleman is looking pretty good right now for my old armorsmith pal.

That's alright check the post that compares armorsmithing before and after the CU. There's a 300% increase in the materials needed to craft after the CU so we can expect a triple or more in the price of armor as well most likely.

seems like too much of a pain for me also. i used to love crafting but now i think combat will be the way to go. either that or EQ2 and i dont really want to leave the game but if it isnt fun anymore then i guess i will have to be part of the mass exodus that will occur shortly after. just wish there was a way to get the armorsmith voice heard without making the devs go on the defensive. oh well. guess my time is short here lol.

I'm thinking that I may just haev my AS to make myself armor. I doubt anyone is going to want to buy it if it's going to be so expensive.

I'm not an armorsmith - never have been, probably never will be, but I've been watching your forums closely with the upcoming changes to your profession.

I'm really concerned that some of the "fun" we *do* experience on test with the CU will be gone once it goes live. The "fun" I mention is finally seeing other players wearing more than just composite or exotic leotards. I loved seeing the imperial and rebel armor-wearing combatants all over the place (even if their duels did cause me to CTD ). I also loved seeing other players wear the other armors. Nice mix to be had...everywhere someone looked different, and it made me wonder what profession they were.

What I'm reading about in your forum regarding the crafting of armors (especially the faction armors) leaves me hurting for your profession as well as for those of us who will miss seeing what we've been seeing on test. It actually feels like star wars to me - maybe a stretch for some of you, but I just love seeing players fighting each other as imps vs. rebels!

I remember when I first went to buy armor well over a year ago. I had no clue how much it cost, so when I found out it was about 300k (at that time), I paled. I hadn't had much more than that in my bank account. Since that day, I've come to respect the price of armor and in paying the armorsmiths their due. I can respect the fact that - given resource requirements, faction costs, etc. - armorsmiths will be forced to drastically raise their prices to continue to be able to produce a viable product, though I shudder to think of having to spend millions for any type of armor. If that's the direction armor-buying will go in, I know I'll be fighting unarmored, as I don't have 40 mill in my bank.

Anyway, here's to hoping things get changed for the better. Seems crazy to limit such a "fun" and important aspect to the game. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Having to restockmy resourcesdoesn't thrill me in the least. Also, know that this could happen again disreguarding what we collect after the CU. Maybe go back to what it was, or change completely.

I say, ifSOEis allowing the combat classes to ReSpec their characters to optimize themselves in the new era, then the crafters should be able to ReSpec all their resources to comply/optimize with this new era as well. All this wait and see retoric is a crock. You are wasting your time, effort, and moneyon "wait and see".

I see in the future of SWG that Jedi will become an Elite class that anyone can train in. Crafting classes will cost zero skill points. Combat will come in one flavor, Vanilla. You just might get sprinkles, a cherry, or nuts on it. The game will keep changing from here on out. It will keep getting easier just to keep a steady monthly income.

Eldarin sums up how the majority of my guild feels at this point in time when he said "I shudder to think of having to spend millions for any type of armor. If that's the direction armor-buying will go in, I know I'll be fighting unarmored, as I don't have 40 mill in my bank." A few of my guildies are already grinding TKA before the CU hits....If they leave 1 "natural armored" class in the game..That will be what everybody is UNTIL(key word is UNTIL) armor gets better or near to the 10000/60% cap..THEN once someone can make some of the best armor only the RICH will be able to afford it..ANYTHING and I will repeat ANYTHING that is considered "The Best" will be marked up so much that the average player will only dream of wearing..In the same breath full guilds will be wearing it because they have credits from years of accumulation....

Having played on the test servers I have to admit it was great seeing larg groups of players pvping in imp and reb armor. Then reality hits and I realize how difficult it will be to mass produce enough faction armor for the masses.
