I haven't seen any tests that show what affect these slices actually have, so it's unknown (at least for me) whether the damage absorbed by the hardening slice is done before or after the damage to armor is calculated.

Hello,
I've got a small question regarding Hardening and Impact Deflection slices on armor. As usual forum search is bust for me so apologies if this has already been posted.
I got hold of a pretty nice set of Tantel and sliced it up to a tier 3 (60% decay reduction) Impact Deflection slice. This totals 75% customisation leaving me with 25% free on each piece of armor.
I was considering sticking a tier 1 Hardening slice in on the free space (totalling 25%).
My question is, since Hardening slices are meant to absorb a portion of the dmg coming in, does this in anyway negate the decay reduction slice?
May sound a little stupid but it sort of makes sense if the armor was meant to absorbing more dmg with the Hardening slice, maybe it effects the decay reduction slice?
Would appreciate some help with this.
Thanks

Hmm, I wouldn't think so. The two mechanisms aren't related.
You should know that that any aftermaket modification of your armor will void your factory warranty

You might want to try asking this on the smuggler's board too (if you haven't already), they might also be able to answer it.

Holy spagetti lord of pirates. Two well researched, unique, gramatically correct, polite posts by non-smugglers about slicing questions in ONE day. And by a jedi no less! Its the apocolypse!
No, it shouldn't effect your decay reduction at all. Slices have no negative aspects in regard to each other. If you make a gun more powerful, you don't have to make it slower to do so, just as with armor, if you make it absorb more damage, it shouldn't make it decay faster. So go for it! And here, have some pie.
