So when buying CAs to get to 12 pts its the experimentation CAs you want correct? And if so what kind of modifier do you need per CA for? Another words I think you can put up to 4 CAs in a shirt if it has 4 slots. So if I got all +1 CAs that would onle be +4. And you need a total of +20 to get the extra 2 points.

Of course you can get more clothes to put CAs in right? Like pants gloves etc? Just want to make sue I dont waste my money on getting the wrong CAs. Thanks in advance.

As a side note Id be glad for any advice on exactly where you would put points step by step when experimenting on padded armor from the first step to the last. I know some people say look at the guides. I still dont know which is which when it comes to what line will yield higher base or etc. Im on the Valcyn server.

All you need to do is figure out how many clothing items you need, and then get enough that will put you up to +20. So, if I had 4 clothing items, I'd need four +5s, or two +4s and two +6s. It all depends on your arrangement.

As for the padded armor, it all depends on the type of padded armor they are wanting. If it is only for decoration, I'd put it all in durability. I rarely get any requests for padded armor for fighting, and when I do, all I do is put kinetic layers in it, and pump up the base normally. (The middle bar).

You can put 4 but it does NOT stack

For Instance:

+9 in a shirt
You put a +10, now its +10 and it drops the 9 and takes a socket you do not get the 9 back

Cyrus,

1. Armor Experimentation CA's and AA's are what you're looking for. Armor Assembly CA's and AA's are nice, but ultimately not particulary important, nor valuable, by comparison. All they do is improve the odds of an amazing success during assembly. In fact, amazing successes may not even matter any more. There's a rumor going around that amazing assemblies have been nerfed, and that they offer no additional advantages compared to great successes. Regardless, the point is that you want EXPERIMENTATION attachments. They're the ones that matter. There are also Armor Repair attachments, which are pretty much worthless to an Armorsmith, since Armorsmiths, (even MAS's,) recieve no innate bonuses when repairing armor. They have EXACTLY the same odds of destroying a very valuable piece of armor as a Novice Marksman or Brawler.

2. DO NOT under any circumstances put two armor experimentation CA's/AA's into the same piece of clothing/armor. The bonuses granted by such attachments DO NOT STACK when placed in the same item! The highest bonus will be retained, and the lower one will be lost. Instead, you want to put each attachment into a different article of clothing/armor. The bonuses ONLY stack when they're being applied from different pieces of clothing.

3. To get to 12 points, you have to understand what that means: A 12 point smith is one with 12 experimentation points to put into the slots during the experimentation phase of crafting. An Armorsmith recieves 1 experimentation point for ever +10 they have in Armor Experimentation. Therefore, a 12 point smith needs a total Armor Experimentation bonus of +120 or more. Since a MAS gets +100 from his mastery of the profession, they additional 20 points need to come from CA's/AA's. There is a cap, however, on the total amount of bonus that can be imparted by such attachments, at +25 total. Thus, your maximum Armor Experimentation bonus is capped at +125, assuming +25 from skilltapes. There is one other way to get a bonus on experimenting: Bespin Port provides an experimentation bonus, but this bonus only improves the results - it does not give you extra points, even if it raises your bonus from +100 to +111, (which is the best port I've seen: +11.)

4. With regard to padded armor, I'm afraid I cannot help you very much. I don't make padded - There's no market for it that I've ever seen, at least on my server. What I'd suggest you do is try making padded with very low HAM costs - Often people will wear padded because it looks cool, and those people would probably be disinclined to get buffed just to put on their armor. That means two things:

a) Making your padded armor segments WITHOUT layers, to minimize encumbrance.
a) Putting as many experimentation points into Experimental Durability during the segment and final combines to reduce encumbrance further.

Padded's natural special resistance is blast, I believe, so I'd recommend against pushing the special resistance in the armor, (Experimental Resistance,) because blast is a relatively rare damage type among PvE opponents, and ever rarer among PvP opponents, with the Power Hammer being the one notable exception. Ultimately, however, you've gotta determine what your market is before you can decide which way to go in experimenting.

5. Finally, I would advise AGAINST going out and buying skilltapes until you have a clear idea of what kind of armor you're going to be making. The fact is, a 12 point smith making armor without any kind of plan is going to make inferior product to a garden-variety 10 point smith who's got a clear idea, from even before he makes his first layer in a run, of what his target is. Considering that getting +20 in skilltapes on most servers is going to cost you about 25 MILLION credits, and considering that you don't yet understand how the damn things work yet, I would submit to you it's a bit premature to be investing in skilltapes.

Good luck to ya.

Oh, there's a post explaining everything you'd ever want to know about skilltapes and achieving 12 points in the armorsmith profession here:

Well I had an idea of hopw skill tapes worked. Needing to total to +20 to get the extra 2 points. I didnt know that putting them in one piece of clothing would cancel the other oput, highest taking over etc.

I do know what I want to make. On my server everywhere I go in padded armor ( My version of clothing) I get requests for it. Thing is I ground up to MAS about a year ago and then left it alone because I just wanted to do other things for a while. Now Im having fun trying to get into it again.

My problem is I just forget whats what easily if I dont do it a lot. So while I have the ability to make everything in armor ( including RIS, that was a fun quest :smileyhappy I need to get back to the basics and start practicing to really understand how to make good armor.

So I sold some ADK and otherthings to get some cash to start buying resources. Setting up my area to work etc. I want to make mostly padded armor and some composite for my guild mates. And just to keep it interesting i have shipqright as well. I dont care if it takes a while to get things going. I just want to make good products.

So while I dont know how to do the stuff very well yet I am working on the process of learning. As far as the cost of SEA, I cant afford to buy enough to get to +20 now. But if I were to see a good deal now I know what to look for. Knowing in advance means that when an oppurtunity presents itself I know what to look for.

Long term Im just waiting for the day i can make storm trooper armor for my guild, Acoy. Grinding FP for armor that sucks like that is kind of a pain. So heres hoping the CURB comes sooner than later.
