I'm very new to Armorsmithing, so please forgive me if this is answered once a day, but I checked the guides and couldn't find anything on this.

I read somewhere that Armorsmiths get XP when someone wears their armor in combat. Is this true? If so, can someone give some specifics on how this works? (ie, you need to be within 10m of them when they take damage on your armor, etc).

Thanks!

Yeah, this is the so called "usage xp". This system is 100% broken, so dont expect to ever see any XP from anything other than crafting armors.

In my whole career I have only seen usage XP two times. It was the first day I got novice armorsmith, andI made two suits of mabari for me and a friend and we walked out of town and hunted various creatures on tattooine to get some hides. During this trip I did get armor crafting XP both when I was hit and when my friend was hit. IIRC I think it looked like it could be something like 1xp per point of damage absorbed by the armor.

The following day I also hunted some more hides when I logged on and I noticed I got a little bit of XP for that as well. I didnt pay very close attention to it this time, but it looked like I got a lot less this time around.

Since then I have made and sold several hundred suits of armor, and I have never gained a single point of armorsmithing XP other than from crafting.

I beleive the conditions that was met the day when I did get usage XP was that every single piece (including segments) were all hand crafted, I never took a shuttle, and every piece (even the ones my friend had on him) stayed inside visual range the whole time.

When I was a n00b, I got Usage XP from someone else using my surveying tools.

Im an armorsmith 1/0/0/4 on Flurry.

I get usage xp all the time.

Im a coleader of a guild, and i make my guild armor, since we all go hunting together we are always fighting. Normally I tank as a master pistoleer/tkn, yet when im not, and the creatures/npcs attack others, I get several xp.

I cant figure out how much xp per hit. I'm guessing, that its 1 xp per every 5 damage or so, every 3/4 hit.

Its not ALL the time, that the armor blocks that I get xp. Its like every 3rd or fourth time.

But it does happen, just the other day in a long guild hunt, I gained... perhaps 1.5-2k of experience. Now, thats not a lot, but when you get it from NOT crafting... Also, I made my chitin segments in a factory, so those count as well.

Its erratic, and its not worth it to trust it to gain you xp, but its nice nonetheless.

I've noticed that usage xp works for me, and the people around me. Best thing I did was armor 2-3 melee brawlers and went hunting.. got overa quartera box of level 4 in 1 hunt (2-3 hours).. no wasting materials and it was fun too...
