I'm starting this topic because well Padded armor really blows.
The two big reasons are as following:
It's chosen vulnrabilities.
It's large Wooley hide requirement.
Padded armor by default is vulnrable to Heat Acid Stun.
Most weapons do not use Stun. And almost everything is weak against stun.. no complaints there.
Heat and Acid are two very highly used damage types. These vulnrabilities cause the armor to be very weak. It is possible to add only 2 layers to Padded armor. This would allow you to leave one vulnrability VS one of those 3 damage types.
The other reason Padded armor is a bad idea. it requires 25 Yavin Wooley hide for 1 adv segment. This doesn't sound like a whole lot. And in practice it really is not. However when your looking at 16 total segments a suit thats 350 hide just for the segments and another few hundred of (any) wooley hide.
The reason this bothers me is that Wooley hide is the "hard to come by" resource for an armorsmith. It is the only "non-minable" resource in the schematic.
This being said the current "best" armor type Composite requires about half as much Wooley hide for a complete suit. The armor is more effective in combat and only has 1 vulnrability and a choice of 3 armor layers.
So basically if ever a good Yavin wooley hide spawns in. There really is no point to use it on adv Padded when Composite which is by far a superior armor requires "any" wooley and less also.
Anyway I just want to know other peoples thoughts on this. Possibly even some solutions to this. One solution would be to change the Wooley hide to something such as Bristly hide thus making the requirements a little more diverse and actually might cause ppl to make a fair amount of padded.

Yeah I'm in agreement with you. The other thing with padded is that everyone wants a custom order since the color schemes are so cool. I'm not complaining about that but because of the extra time/risk involved I feel like I should charge more for padded than I do for comp. Customers looks at the stats and the price and says 'what the hell' and then wants comp anyway.
Combine that with the Yavinian Wooly Hides requirement, the three major vulnerabilities and you have a piece that just doesn't make much sense.
My solution is basically the same. Change the requirement of Yavinian wooly hide in the segment itself. Change it to something that is at least mineable. Maybe to show the uniqueness of padded it could be something floral. haha.

If they want padded to ever be worth making they need to remove the wooly requirement for the segments. Then they need to remove the lok leathery hide requirement and the wooly hide requirement for the basic armor.
Then they need to halve the scaley hide requirement. Once these changes had been made padded might become a viable armor.
And while we're talking about Padded and what makes it totally worthless as an armor, might as well add Chitin to the list of armors that need a requirement overhaul. Chitin suffers from the same horrible harvested material requirements rendering it just as unviable.

Padded sucks, but there is more of a systemic problem with the armor selection in the game. Only Composite is a big seller, with ubese comming in a distant second. There is no use and no demand for any of the other armors, as they don't offer any special advantages. I agree they need to knock a serious amout off the hide requirements for padded to give us armorsmiths any reason to make it. Why would I use wooly hide for padded, when I can use it to make composite, which is a much better seller. I don't make padded as it is really not worth it. Take a lot of the hide reqirements, make the special protection something useful like energy, and then maybe padded would sell.

This is systemic again with the undue focus of energy and kineticbased weaponary. If it was common to encounter some of the other damage types, then Blast might just be a good thing.
There needs to be more things in the PVE side that do heat, blast, cold, stun, acid, and restraint (?) damage.
On the PVP side, I think this has a lot to do with grenades not working all that well. They simply aren't viable weapons to use with their huge wait times. Couple that with only a few types of weapons doing heat, or acid, or cold damage, and you have, as a result, an over-reliance on Energy and Kinetic.
Padded is a good idea in theory. It really really wants to be a versatile armor, more focused on what layers you put into it rather than a specific focused idea for resistanceslike Chitin and Bone seem to be. But it fails in that due to the layers, you get a great deal more HAM encumbrance. It may be necessary to reduce the HAM encumbrance somewhat to offset this.
Were Padded a little lighter it would make a decent alternative to Composite, sacrificing some resistances for a lighter weight. I don't have an issue so much with the wooly hide requirement, or the Lok Leathery hide. These can be gathered via some contracts with Scouts and Rangers.

The only reason padded has any value is the low mind cost. Not sure how Ubese fares comparitively in mind cost but for someone who is a Rifleman Mind is everything; And of chorus it looks cool except for the mushroom head I don't care for it.

Yes, but having it as named resources it severely limits the chance of ever getting the required amounts when a decent quality finally spawns on those planets. Lok being a bit easier as almost everything there is leathery, but on Yavin you're limited to killing mamiens and the few Woolymanders running around outside the temple - this makes it a really boring task for the rangers/scouts you hire.

I couldn't agree more.
Advanced Composite Segs use all minerals.
Advanced Ubese Segs use all minerals.
Advanced Ubese Segs use all minerals.
Why can't Advanced Padded Segs also? Padded armor has some potential to be pretty good armor if the resource requirements were changed a bit and the encumbrance lowered a bit. I can't get a full suit on of Padded without buffing, and if I have to buff, I just might as well wear Composite.
Personally, I think they should change the Yavin Wooly Hide requirement to a specific fiberplast, ie....Nabooian Fiberplast, Correllian Fiberplast, etc. I think the fiberplast would be more inline for requirements seeing as this is a "cloth" armor.
