I really think Armorsmith profession needs to be redesigned.

As it is now we can basicaly only make 2 types of armor, Composite and Ubese (for those who can't afford composite yet)

nobody wants the other types of armor because its basicaly worthless.

My solution:

Make its so all the different types of armor provide basicprotection against all types of damage. Just put caps on how high each protection can be on the various types of armor. For example, make itso Bone Armor caps out at 20% base protection and 30% special protection (maybe with speical loot items like nightsister shards it could bump up to 35% max). Of course the armor with the lower caps will also have lower encumbrance.

Also make it so anyone can wear armor without buffs, but on heavy encumbrance armor have it decrease a person's defensive skills, aiming, speed movment, etc.... This would allow people to still fight unbuffed with there armor, but of course not as good as someone wearing the armor who is buffed. To me this would be a good solution also to how tough melee fighters are with composite, under these changes they wouldnt be as tough since composite would slow down how fast they attacked. Which makes sense, since I never saw Bruce Lee run around with full metal armor on. But melee fighters could wear the lighter types of armor like mabari which would offer them protection but not reduce there effectiveness in battle as much.

Now to add some flavor into the game, allow weaponsmiths to make a weapon that can give off damage that no armor has natural protecton against, but make this weapon extramly hard to make like the RIS armor is. In return let armorsmiths use hard to get materials (like RIS armor materials) to add protection against this new weapon type damage. You could wrap this into a story, like the empire developing this weapon and rebels trying to steel the schematics of it and also developing a defensive armor against it... something along those lines

To me this would balance out the armorsmith profession and you would see a lot more people wearing other types of armor.

wouldnt say armorsmith needs a revamp. just some stats changed.

or perhaps make it so armors need certifications like weapons so only elite professions get compostie for instance and dabblers can only get bone. hopefully something like this will get a fix in the combat revamp...

Its three types, the wookie armour has some limited demand Four if you include shield generators, which also have a limited demand.

I've neer been a fan of certificates, i mean how come i can be a master pistoleer and not be able to use all the pistols out there. Makes no sense. I can understand not being able to handle heavy weapons since there more complicated weapons, but a pistol is a pistol.

Besides giving certificates for armor would mean only commandos and bounty hunters would be able to wear composite, and everyone thats not a Commando or Bounty Hunter would scream about that. If they were going to implament certificates they would have hadto do it at the begining of the game and maybe people would of accepted it then, but now that there used to it, to take it away would be wrong.

But something needs to be done about the various types of armor, as it is now I would say that 70% use composite, 25% ubesse and 5% varoius other armors.

For a quick fix how about making it so Bounty Hunters and Commandos get a encumbrance bonus when wearing armor to offset the negative encumbrance. To me this makes sense since there basicly all around fighters and have the most experience with weapons and armor use.

A idea of mine I have had for a long time about armor is to have a level system in place. All levels can wear all armors but each level is diffence is stats. Each combat skill box you earn you get a level and if you drop that box you lose a level.

If you are a novice marksman 2-2-1-2 you will have 8 levels

If you are a novice marksman 2-2-1-2 and a master brawler you will have 26 levels.

Any novice combat profession will have 1 level and each skill box you learn you will get another level and let armorsmiths choose what level their make they armor at (I think it would allow novie armorsmiths to compete with masters), So any player at level 10 can wear level 20 armor but is greatly reduce its effectiveness.

But for this to work you will need to revamp combat and make areas in the game were people with same skills can fight each other.

One thing I think they need to change is the Electrical resistant on Compoiste increasing as you experiment on Base %. No other armor does this, and has turned Composite armor into tank armor. If the special protection were like Ubese or Padded armor you would see 68% composite with 25% electrical resistances. I think this would be a very good change or the addition of another vulnerability to composite.

There is a very easy way to fix the base % you can increase Composite to. Make it so you cant experiment the base effectiveness of layers. You can still increaseit with nightsister layers and you can still cap 80% on the special protection you want but you are forced to decide what you want high protection in.

Even if you tweak the armorsmith profession some, unless all armor gives some protectoin against the different types of damage, everyone is going to keep wearing composite. You can add 5 new sets of medium strength armor into the game, but everyone will still want composite since its the strongest. So adding new armor under the existing armorsmith design would be useless since nobody want it except to show off in a musuem. Unless its equal to composite in stregth. Even if RIS armor was easier to make even with the extreamly low encumbrance you still wont see many people wear it because it has 2 vunerbilities so for ultimate armor composite is still the way to go. now if they removed the 2 vunerbilities to RIS armor then that would be different.

Personaly I dont like vulnerabilities in armor because for example if someone see's you wearing composite there just going to take out a stun weapon and your armor becomes useless. I'd prefer to see composite with no vulnerabilities but with a cap on stun of around 20%. Same with RIS take its 2 vulnerabilities and just cap them low so u can't make the perfect armor but atleast give you some protection.

Make lighter armor so it has even less encumbrance so it will tempted melee fighters into wearing it instead of the heavy stuff.

Something has to be done soon, or there going to start losing more players from being utterly bored to death. A person can only make composite so many times before going insane. Need some variety !!!

Another cool thing is if they make armor specific to preofessoin. Make like 3 different types of armors for commandos to wear,4 diferent types for pistoleers/carbines/riflemen to wear, and like 5 or so different types of armor for melee fighters to wear, atleast this would add some variety so not everyone look like a clone with composite....
