Thread: Does bespin port even work?

So I'm making a new batch of kinetic layers for my next batch of ubese (now that I have 11 point instead of 10) and I'm trying to get 2 amazings in by using bespin port, and it just ain't working .

With an amazing and a great roll on special protection (5 and 4 points spent) I can maxspecial protectionat 94% (14%kin) with2 points left over to spend in hams and after a bunch of attempts using bespin port (+7) I just cannot get an amazing roll on those 2 points in hams.

Now I'm not sure if an amazing will even help a mere 2 points, but I wanted to find out for myself. But after a whole lot of attempts with port it just ain't happening.

Am I doing something wrong? I do the special protection first (5 points first roll, 4 points second roll) and then if I get 1 amazing and 1 great for those two rolls (thus maxing special protection) I then take a shot of the bespin port and then put my 2 last points into hams and experiment. But I just cannot get amazing .

Has anyone done any work with bespin ports? Should I keep trying?

Bespin Port doesn't guarantee an amazing result. It just ups the chance of great and amazing results and lessens the chance of fails, moderates, and goods.

After crating about 40 high end armor pieces with Bespin Port, I've only had 1 fail, 1 moderate, and all the rest were greats or amazings on experimentation.

yeah, I realize that , but is the port really doing anything? I've always assumed we have an inherent 100 skill or so for determening experiment results (assembly perhaps?), and that the port added to that roll.

Anyways I almost always get greats already, I suppose I was just hoping chugging a port would make amazings a little bit easier to get.

I suppose that +7 isn't much of a bonus compared to whatever our skill is at master. What sort of stats are the ports the rest of you use? Mines +7 /22fill with 16 charges. I don't know if it'sBE or anything, are those stats average? good?

I notice a bid difference in my experimentation with bestine port

Were you crafting in a Research Center? The chance of Amazing Succes goes way up (they're still not a common occurence) if you are crafting in a Research Center and using Port. Regards.

I just found a 44.0 rated station to use my 15.0 tool next to in a local Reseach Center while drinking port.

Try this: instead of experimenting on the layers with say 3 tries... if you can spend all your points on one experiment. Then the port will affect your entire experiment at once.

This lets you conserve your port/stomach filling and also creates a less complex schematic for faster factory runs.

was going to suggest something like this...

first of all though, it doesn't make faster runs... complexity doesn't matter to tell you the truth, because it goes off of the base complexity.

ok, my suggestionwas to go with8 points into base (amazing) and see if that maxxes it. it's 64% increase instead of 68%, but I dont know what you need. otherwise, just do 7 and 2 or 8 and 1. this is best because you'll get an 8% increase per point on amazing, so you get more for your money (5*8 + 4*7 <--- yours V. 8*8 + 1*7 (if you need that extra 4%)). you will waste a lot of time getting amazings on those last 2-3 points into ham, but depending on what you start with, it might pay off. You'll notice a definite cutoff for ham drops (base is every 25%, kinetic is every so much, so is HAM)... and if the extra 2% or 3% from an amazing in that area will help you reach the next level, then do it, otherwise, dont bother. To check, do the 2 points first and wait for the amazing, and see if it matters (or whatever.. order doesn't really matter.. it's just late here ). I dont have any experience working with bespin port, but I should soon. I have +25 assembly and 45 station with 15 tools... working on getting mayor to switch to research and my chef friend is going to pump me out some bespin should be quite wonderful

anyway, good luck man, and just keep workin at it. Just think, at least it's the layers, and not the final piece or segment, because you can screw up layers as much as you want, but you'll only have 1k of them to mess with when it comes time for your segments, or 332-78 of them when you're working with your final pieces (probably did that last part wrong, as it's late and I did it in my head ). later

ya, I always take a little shuttle trip out to a nice player city with research bonuses when I craft .

As for the layout of the points when experimenting. If I understand it right (7% on greats per point, 8% on amazings per point?) my base percentages are 27%, add an amazing on 5 points for 40%, then a great on 4 for 28% and I have 95% (94% is the cap for this bar). or 27% base + 35% (great on 5 points) + 32% (amazing on 4) I get 94% (the cap). So two chances for an amazing roll to cap it at 94%.

If I roll 8 points all in one roll for an amazing I get 27% (base) + 64% = 91% (which only yields 13% kinetic alas)

So I definately need to roll 9 points into the kinetic bar to get it to 14%, and by splitting the roll into a 5 and a 4 roll I get two chances for an amazing result (with an amazing on either + a great on the other capping the %)

I don't think I'm going to bother trying furthur for an amazing on the 2 points in hams. I start at a base of 18% in the durability bar, 2 points as a great yields 33% in that bar (should be 32% according to my calculations? how odd) so an amazing would only give 1 or 2 more %. Guess I was just being picky . It'd be nice to be able to tell if 1 or 2 percent more would drop my ham 1 more point, but lol, way too much work trying to get that.

Thanks for your thoughts all

Sorry for the bad info about the schematic complexity. I'm still learning myself. =)

The thing about your durability experiments... it's been suggested that experiments on durability are actually 4 separate rolls (H/A/M/Durability) as opposed to the single roll that are effectiveness and special. So that would explain why you aren't getting a steady % increase.

I guess it's possible to get an amazing on your action encumbrance roll (for example, could be any of them.) and greats on all other rolls. Then the resulting percentage ends up 1 or 2 % different from what you would expect the roll to give.

You can see evidence to support this when your layers have different HAM cost or durability, even when the same %.

Hope I'm not giving out more bad info, but this is the way I've heard/seen it work.

I've seen very little of varying results with hams/durability. If I get a great roll on my 2 points in hams I always get 405 durability and 13/13/13 hams. The only times I see varying results are if I get a failed roll (like a mediocre, or good roll) and then I have some hams way worse, and some that are way better even.

Truly odd results with hams

ya man, looks like you're doing it right then without hard numbers its a shot in the dark, but looks like you're doing everything right, and should make some nice armor. hopefully this is for ubese or something that you're not thinking of triple layering good luck bro

I use bespin port a lot and I can tell you I have never had anything less than a great success while using it. It does seem to prevent failures. As for getting amazings, I have noticed you either get a bunch of them together or none at all. Very odd. You just need to hit it just right and you can pull 3 amazings in a row. Expect most of the time not to get that though.
