Hi all,
As a new master armorsmith I have what is probably a really dumb question, but here goes.
Just about to start making my first kinetic armor layers, but if I want to get high base and 80% kinetic composite should I be experimenting the base protection if the kinetic layer or the special protection ?
With 10 points I can hit either :
4% base and 4% kinetic or 13% kinetic and 2% base.
Thanks in advance.

Composite is a very funky armor, experimentation-wise. The way it was explained to me is like this:
Composite has resists against everything except stun and LS. We know this. When we bump something from base to special using layers, composite uses an interesting experimentation result. If, in the example of kinetic, we use kinetic layers, when you experiment base on the final product, the special protections will raise as well as the base. I think this is also the case when experimenting segments.

So this is how you can get 80% kin/electric and still get decent base, plus HAM.
Start with a kineticlayer and experiment base to 2%, if not already there.
Use a point or 2 to bring special to 7 or 8%
Dump the rest into HAM. You should get 5/5/5 HAM on the Layer or thereabouts. Use 2 or 3 of these (tinker some, I'm not going to give you ALL the answers
) Experiment base up on the segment, then drop leftover points into HAM, then same with final piece and voila.
Hope this helped.

If you want maximum base, like you mentioned, don't put any points into special resist on the layers. Put it all in base, then the leftover into ham. This will max your base on 3 layer armor but it will typically be heavier... with good resources you can get as good as 80% kinetic 72% base with this approach.

Thanks for the pointers, think I will head in the right direction now.
Certainly an odd way of experimenting, but I am looking forward to playing around with armorcrafting.

make a setof composite gloves with an advance comp segemt and no layers to see what your baseline resists are 1st.
for example if you end up with 55% then you know to reach 80% you need 80-55= 25 points between the 3 layers.
in this case 4/4 layers can work as long as you get 4.2 on one of the resist lines (fractions count round up) so if your layers ended up 4.2 base and 4 kin you would end up with 55+(4.2*3) base or 68% base and a 55+(4.2*3)+(4*3) or 80% kinetic.
you can figure base fractions along the lines of each point of % in the middle line = .04then add 1. so if your middle line is experimented out to say 78% that would equal 78 * .04 =3.12+1= 4.12 on base. so to get 4.2% base on the layer you would have to hit 80% on the experiment line. 80 * .04 = 3.2 +1 = 4.2. this on 3 layers would = 12.6 and round up to 13% base resist.
this took me FOREVER to figure out and i must say the help of several smiths.

Some days I'm convinced I get by on luck alone, because math is not my strong suit, and I can never actually figure this stuff out.
I am constantly pestering poor Estei until I figure out what to do.... but it rarely means I understand why it works.
