The dark grey, if put in the location that you're saying you want it, makes black...call it grey if you want, but its black. So in short, yes, you can do what you are wanting to color-wise.

On the helm can the main part be black, black face, and the circle on top be red?

do a search for RIS color palate (here or on image dump)

there is no black on RIS, or that is all wou would see
