Yep, I made a pair of 0 HAM gloves the other day, so I know you can do it with bracers. Didn't try with RIS layers only, so I'll have to do that this weekend.

May even be able to use base level NS shards to make sure it happens.

Sounds very workable, I wonder if its doable with 10 points?

I suspect so, I commonly use 3% layers anda 10/10/10 (but preferrably a bit nicer) shard to make some spiffy 64% base 20/0/20 HAMbiceps/bracers/gloves for personal use. I think one of the biceps ended up being 79% post-sliced base, 11/0/3 HAM. But mostly they end up slice for encumbrance. Boots turn out good too but around 20/10/20.

My personal suit I used to grind FS is 400/390/410 and it had double layer kinetic helm/chest/pants (medium weight, 80% kinetic replacements thati just had them laying around) of which only the helm/chest were sliced for encumbrance (got lazy with the pants and never got them sliced.) This was as a 10 point smith.

It worked good for me as a PvE fencer (stop already, it was my last hologrind guess and i never bothered to regrind another combat profession) because the armor actually lasted for a long, long time without having to get repaired. I think the boots are down to 3k of 6k, biceps max. is under 12k now.

My ranger/rifleman's unbuffed hunting suit:

All pieces 80% kinetic 73% electric 64% base 37k cond

Total Suit HAM: 271/245/264

Individual HAMS:

chest 125/38/10

pants 41/98/16

boots 14/23/4

helm 16/10/166

right bracer 15/15/17

left bracer 16/16/15

right bicep 11/12/16

left bicep 16/16/19

gloves 17/17/1

made that with a mixture of 10-20 power shards and triple layer aluminum kinetic layers (2% base 6% kin 2/2/2 ham)

i just made pieces until all got encum sliced... as far as I know this suit is pretty unique...

Made it about 3 months ago when I was still 10-point smith havent repaired anything an all pieces are still above 30k cond (thats from being smart and pulling a 62-66% energy psg when i start getting shot at)

next project now that a good oridium has spawned on my server is to make a full suit of base slicedRIS layered comp with around 80% resists(currently getting 67-68% base)

If you disregard resistances completely, you can make Zero HAM Bracers and Biceps fairly easily using RIS Layers, correct? The swing from an RIS Layer to my Kin layer is around 15-20 points. So you would be saving 45 HAM points minimum switching to RIS Layers, then dumping all points into HAM experimentation, you should be able to hit 0 right? Ifnot, definately using NS Shards?

Let me know how that works out, I am gonna do something similiar. I figure you can hit 90% base on all the pieces with HAM in the 250 range. I am only 10 point smith, so I am going to wait until I get 12 first

I made this when I was a 10-pt AS. I made it with NS layers and shards, and throwing a couple extra points into HAM experimentation. HAM is still dependent on the malleability of your resources though, there's a cap on it just like base and special protection %.

It's not too hard to hit 0/0/0 HAM, but keeping the resists high can get tricky sometimes.

That's a very nice piece of armor.

I've completely ignored everything RIS due to lack of interest, but RIS layers got my attention. How do you acquire the schem? Is it limited use?

its part of the RIS quest... you get to make as many as you want assuming you have enough feathers

It's the first part of the quest too, so you don't actually have to do the whole quest.
