Hey all,
"VERY" new to smithing so I'm wondering which way to spend my exp points on kinetic layers that are going into comp.
Is having a higher base like 3 or 4 more important then the resist value? Or it is better to end up with high resist and 2% base??
I've read over the AS faq and the RIS pappers but still have some questions about the EXP part of smithing.
Thanks!
BTW: Anyone loot at RIS items on this new patch?

Well people who tout 80/80 72% base are just maxing the middle bar. With any single resist usually you dont have to touch the special resist line to hit 80%.
4/4 base/kinetic or 4/5 base/kinetic layers should be fine to hit 80% and have a decent base. but from there there is alot you can do to improve your recipe in the area of HAM and base.
My light 80% kinetic is typically made using 1/1/1 to 3/3/3 HAM layers. With decent resources you canmake 2/6base/kinetic layers in the 2/2/2 HAM area andeasily hit 80% kinetic. If you make some gloves testing your different layers youll get an idea what you need for the result you are looking for.

So when you say 4/4 base/kinetic are you saying base 4% with resist at 4 or 5% and then using the rest of your points into HAM?
Thanks for the help and info!

yes, 4% base / 4-5% special resist. 92% and above would be optimal in the middle bar for max base for reference.

OK guys,
Here is my first two runs at kinetic layers.
I got 4% base on both and on one I got 5% kinetic with 90% middle bar.
On the other I got
4% base and 8% kinetic with 89% middle bar.
What is the differnece in the long run on these?
One note.. on the 4% 90 bar I put two more points into it once it had reach the 4% mark but the only thing that change was the exp number from 89 to 90. If I don't have the resources to get it to 5% are the other two points geting itfrom 90 or 92 a waste?

Hey, just tried out some advanced comp seg.
I now i don't have the best resources so these are sure not to compair with others. I'm already 12pt so maybe those extra two points will help.
Base 31%
Int 1360
HAM 58/58/61
Elec 12%
Kinetic 25%
Just wondering if I'm going down the right track with this stuff.

without knowing ur resources , id say throw it into a pair of gloves , gloves require only 1 segment then u can see how ur composite looks

Im sort of new to As but ill give you a few tidbits on seg that I see. You only need to get your elec to 11 to hit the 80 mark. Than to hit 70 base or more you will have to get your base to 35. I think you should worry about getting your base up first than worry about the ham. With buffs they way they are now the HAM is always of second consideration.
When I do layers ill sit at the crafting station for a while till I get what I want. Ill use food and drink to increase my chance for amazing success. You would be surprised at how much you can trash doing this. But the other day I got like 9 amazings in a row, than hit a crit fail. The amazings will get you to add one more point in another line. so take the time to do it. It is well worth the time it takes.
