darnit hit enter instead of tab
anyways, I've just grinded to master AS. I have about 9.5 million creds on me. How should I start my Armor business? I have planned on getting locations for resources I need, but that will be very time consuming & expensive. I can sort of see that my armor may not be that great for a while, as I won't have very good resources. How exactly did some of you other AS's get your business' going?
Thanks![]()

9.5 million might not be enough for a decent amount of top notch resources - it should be, but it depends on your economy.
If theres nothing decent in shift, start asking around. First and foremost are your resources - without them you cant be a smith.
You shouldnt really settle for 'second rate' resources unless you can get them REALLY cheap (as in get them out of the ground yourself) as you'll find that you're not going to sell many suits and wont be able to recoup your losses.
The best thing to probably do is to sit out for a few weeks/months until at least 1 shift of everything you need comes into play - though if youre happy spending all your money to buy in resources, then go for it that way, and buy buy buy until you're bankrupt, then wait on for the remaining bits that you need.
I know this may sound harsh, but I hope youre in it for the long term - you'll spend all your cash and not see any of it back for a good few months, its a hard market to break into these days unless you can provide something different from the rest... and thats just not really possible with the way the armoursmithing profession is at the moment.

To start I would actually advise getting the second tier of resources, making second tier armor, and undercutting the market. You will not be able to sell to the elite players your first go around. I am over a month into it and I have some really nice resources and I still cannot compete with the top smiths because I do not have +20 experimentation.
I started AS and I had tons of resources laying around from friends static lots and my own while I was on the Jedi grind. A lot of what I had was low quality and I did not take the time in advance to determine what materials I would need. I had almost no Intrusive Ore, not much Colat (and it wasnt great Colat), very little polysteel copper (easy to come by though) almost no wooly hide. I was lucky in that some fantastic steel had shifted in and I mined the heck out of it which I use in all my kinetic segments. I also had some very good Naboo Fiberplast from just before I remastered AS.
If not for a shift of fantastic Intrusive about a week into my career I would have been finished. Fortunately the stuff shifted in I plopped 4 heavies on it and have enough Ore that I won't need it again, and the stats were outstanding.
Even with all that I still for the most part make very heavy Kinetic composite armor and I just recently was able to hit 65% base (top smiths on my server hit 68% with regularity and 70% if they use their older resources). However I have made very good sales. I stocked up on a recent Axidite/Neutronium shift and was able to make 73%-74% Ubese which sells a bit because I sell it relatively cheap (105k as opposed to 150k a suit).
I made some Kinetic Comp with crappy base but still 80% kinetic and a lot of points into durability to lower the HAM. They are perfect for PvE since most all mobs do kinetic damage and anyone grinding wants them. I sold them even cheaper than my other kinetic and it flew off the shelves.
By doing this I still made a decent profit which I threw right back into stockpiling resources (I am hurting bad on Known Solid Petro tho). I have had tons of people visit my armor tent, and I write down all their names and every couple weeks I will try to email them as to what I have in stock and my prices, which are very competitive.
I think this is the best way to break in. You build a little profit, and you learn how to make really good armor (guides are nice but you really have to play with it a bit to learn what works best sometimes), but more importantly you build a customer base.
If you come out of the gates selling armor at inflated prices, you won't make many friends, you will have a limited customer base, and in the long run you will have a rough time with it.

interesting, thanks
Its just hard for me to plop down a lot of money for resources that only pay slight dividends.
