When Creating Schems on Segs or Layers, put the serial number in the description line after standard description. then you wont have to do an "examine" to make sure you are using the correct crates in your factory run. just holding the cursor over the item will cause the full description to pop up with your serial number label there.
I minor in Tailor so I do the same thing with my Rein. Fiber Panels, Synth Cloth, Fiberplast Panels, and Armor Padding.

I just number layers 1, 2 and 3... then when making the segments I dont mix up. I keep them all in the same factory, so no chance of mixing up between factories.
I then name segments with the special resist type, stun, kinetic etc.... I don't keep more than one run of segments in stock at any time.

I use series numbers. Works good too. Easy too keep track of the crates then.

hm thought everybodyis doingthis already 
i am adding the serial number to any schematic i craft.
becomes handy to sort out how many segments are leftof a certain run.

I do my own Tailor needs for Subs, but if you use someone else, ask them to put the SER#s in for ya. i try to stay 1 full run ahead on my stuff.
anyway, wasnt trying to push on anyone. was just something i do to keep from screwing up!

I use numbers or letters
1- energy layer
2- energy layer
1,2,3 energy seg etc
put it on the front so you can see it better too

i edit mine down short also so easier to read in description
Kinetic Protection Armor Layer I knock it down to:
Kin Prot Lyr (serialnumber)

I typically do mine in a system that is probably way to complex but my current kinetic composite suits the layers an segments names look something like this.
C^KV8.LA ** 4%(90%)/4% ** 8/8/8 **
C^KV8.LB ** 4%(90%)/4% ** 8/8/8 **
C^KV8.LC ** 4%(90%)/4% ** 8/8/8 **
C^KV8.SABC ** 35%(83%)...
So basically the C^ is for Composite K is for Kinetic, the V8 is Version 8 of my Kinetic Composite Suits and the three layers are A, B and C. The segment is S for Segment and then ABC to tell which layers it includes. I typically do 6 runs of layers at a time so I have layers A, B, C, D, E and F and they segments ABC and DEF. I also use the same system for tailoring so when I am ready to make the runs everything is numbered and easily sortable in my inventory or datapad.

layers get numbers and segments get dates. Works real well for me.
