Thread: Regarding layers

Hello

I made Master Armorsmith yesterday, and was making ADV ubese armor segments today. I had set up a factory run of kinetic layers, and had some of these when I was crafting the ubese. So, I put a kinetic layer in a ADV segment. But then I started thinking, Ubese is supposed to havespecial protection for kineticfrom the beginging. Does it matter if I layer it with"more" kinetic? I tried making the same segment without a layer and got pretty much the same result (only difference was in how well the experimenting went).

My question is: Is there any point in layering a segment with a damage type it allready has protection from? I've been reading some armorsmithing guides, but couldn't quite figure it out.

Adding a kinetic layer to a ubese segment will:

- increase the encumberance;

- increase the kinetic resist;

- increase the base resist;

- make kinetic resist not sliceable

The amount to which this happens depends on the quality of the layer (i.e., resources and experimentation).

As far as I know the theoretical (with 1000 OQ and SR) maximum kinetic resist for non-layered ubese is 70%, whereas for layered it is 80% (truncated from 85%).

I would say never make Ubese with some kind of kinetic layer in it. Ubese is so light to begin with I max out my kinetic resists then drop the rest of my points into enc for the layers and segments.

Just as a note, this is probably not how you want to make your kinetic layered comp armor.

I would love to see that 0/0/0 kenetic layer, did not think that was possible..... (If it is I am v jealous)

Just curious: how high do you get your kinetic resist without a kinetic layer? I would never make ubese armor without a kinetic layer unless I want non-sellable armor.

Oh and you were completely right about kinetic resist not being sliceable to begin with. My bad.

I never made any except probably when I was a n00b AS. LOL But my layers I make for Ubese are usually around 13%/1% and the armor comes out (currently) at 71% so I would guess about 57%.

Ah, we agree on that then. I thought you said never to use a kinetic layer in ubese armor, but I guess you meant never go without one.

Yes withOUT. There was obviously a disconnect between my brain and my fingers.
