Ya know what...
If you are going to have to hunt for all of the hides yourself...
In the long run, it would probably be quicker to master a combat profession first, or just pick up 0040 TKA... and go out hunting... at TKM Rancors would be a breeze, and you could harvest hide all day long...
Well, I hope that you are using the armor crafting macro provided here, (or better yet, you have created your own macro, more suited to your desires)
I saw a really good macro a while ago that didn't use any sort of timers whatsoever, it was set up something like this...
F1-F12 or something like that, had macros in them and Shift-F1-Shift-F12 had crafting tools in them... each macro was essentially the same... and the macro went something like this I believe...

Anywho I am sure that the syntax there is incorrect (doin this from memory) and I may have even forgot a line or two... but the principle behind it is that you are not tied into any timed crafting sessions, you simply hit F1, add the ingredients you want, grab a coffee if you feel like it, answer the phone call if one comes, and then hit F2 to create the item and setup your next craft... if you are really quick, this can actually be faster than using the timed methods, I know for me it sped things up, because for me, going through the crates of synthetic cloth I would always have to add a couple seconds into my pause to make up for the times when my crate would dissappear and I would have to add an extra double click in there...
If you are at all macro savvy, I suggest you give this a try and edit the macro as you see fit (at least get it to work heh 
but yeah, Master an Elite Combat Profession (doesn't really matter which one) if you are hunting your own hide, should only take a couple days of Power Gaming and some good buffs to do that (plus you will be harvesting Hide the entire combat Grind)
In case you want to know, My template is Master Armorsmith, Master TKM, 4044 Artisan, 0004 Merchant, 4000 Brawler, 0010 Scout...
This leaves me as a pretty self sufficient Armorsmith... although the thought has crossed my mind to become a swordsman, as they can tear up a Lot of things with those great power hammers and scythes...

Yes you need to be a community veteran to edit posts.
Dan, if I've learned anything about being a master armoursmith so far, its that getting to master is the easy bit. Aquiring the resources to make all the armour types is the nightmare.

Just wait until you hit Ubese Armored Shirts... I still hate the suckers, and when people want ubese from me i say no....

Ubese is all I make, as well as deflectors... but composite looks more daunting... I can't make advanced ubese segments on starsider either... no axidite iron... *sigh*

There should be Axidite on Starsider... On Tatooine at least. I've been mining it for at least 3 days. Unless it despawned this morning....

Just like to say i salute all you master armoursmiths out there. ive recently become a novice and i must say im am daunted by the amount of xp you need to get to master.
i started grinding AUK's and after 2 hours im only half way to getting personal armour 1.
im now shifting my attention to mabari chest plates and im just collecting the resources. 1800 chest plates is a hell of a lot if you ask me, but hey nevermind. ive got a factory churning out armour segments while i find the resources for the synthetic cloth then the hunt for the resources really starts 
Think ill be going on some major vor hunts on dant at the weekend to get some money to fund all this
on a lighter note i found the best deal of the century on the bazzar last night 54k wind energy for 10 credits!!! i dont want to work out how much cpu that is
