Greetings Weaponsmiths,

I've been contemplating about picking up weaponsmith, and to be honest I'm not quite sure. What I'm afraid of is that I'll be cast in the shadow of the rather famous weaponsmiths, starting out as a 10 point master with moderate resources, so I wanted to ask advice from other weaponsmiths out there:

  • Would 10 million enough to get me off the ground to Master Weaponsmith, and to get resources?

  • What skills should be put with Weaponsmith?

  • Is this a field that is enjoyable, yet profitable?

  • How could I advertise myself, and get my name known in a field of 12 Point smiths?

Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

if you want to be successful you need the best resources you can get. 10 mil could be enough if you arent looking to get huge amounts of the best resources but if you dont want huge amounts and just go for smaller amounts, then yes it could be enough.

all the credits in the galaxy just will not speed up that next spawn. unfortunately 90some% of the quality of your weps depends on the resources you put in them. being a MWS will require you to have some 60+ different resources relying on different stats. here on naritus, i have paid at least 5-700k for just 25k of high quality stuff of which i had to search my a$$ off for lol. you may want to at least be able to survey or make friends with someone who can to harvest the stuff yourself but of course you still have to have the good spawn available.

i am WS/Slicer/TK but for fun and not profit. i craft weps for myself and my guild and just put the crappy slices for sale on the bazaar. i love crafting weapons...it is the first prof i mastered and prolly the last i will ever give up, but i am guessing you will see no immediate profit once you become master in that as i said above the resources you will need will determine the quality of your product and sometimes it may take time to accumulate them.

my best advice would be to focus on melee weps to start out with as they require many less resources to craft (not to mention a lot of peeps seem to be going fencer or swordsman these days).

as far as the12 vs 10 pts...usually the extra 2 pts don't make much difference. if you can afford the tapes to get the extra points then by all means snatch them, but as a 10 pt smith you will be able to craft decent enough weps.

Remember when you buy resources for high prices count how much will it cost for you. I bought Irolunn Reactive Gas for 150cpu. Costs me 24k just to make a t21. And now a even better Irolunn has spawned on our server.

1. Yes.

2. Armorsmith is fine being a stand alone profession. Some people also do tailor, but I found it to be much more complicated trying to make my own cloths as well as armor.

3. Hell yeah.

4. This one is the harderst:

a. Always be kind and courteous to your customers, and they will remember you and patronize your vendor.

b. Pick an attractive, well known spot for your store, or put a vendor in an already established vendor mall.

c. Advertise on the trade forums.

d. Advertise in the Auction channel.

e. Sponsor events for your guild and/or city so that your name becomes well known.

1 - It took me approx 60M to start up. If you can bear not getting loads of the best resources, than yes, 10million should be enough.

2 - Abit of Merchant is nice, and Surveying doesn't hurt, but it works great on itself

3 - Yes

4 - Producing cheap Kinetic Armour always helps, their Armour may be 5% extra base, but if it's an extra 150k, you will definately have customers. If you aren't using the best resources, than Kinetic Composite may only cost as little as 100k to make. If you're prepared to at first only make a small bit of profit, people will get to know your Armour.

I'll put in my 2 credits... 10 million can get you started, but finding the "best" resources isn't always possible. On Lowca, I have searched for months trying to find certain high quality resources, on vendors, or to harvest. They just aren't available sometimes. Plus, there are loot item issues. To start out as a weaponsmith, start by gathering the resources to make 1 item...like blaster power handlers. If you can make good ones, you can make decent weapons from them even without the best resources. A 10 point smith can do ok, it may take a few more tries to get the final result you want. Don't compare yourself to the masters that have been here forever. One, it is impossible to compete with them...so don't. Make the best weapons you can. Not everyone owns weapons from them, and there is a reason for that. People will buy weapons, if the price/performance is right for what they need. A person who is gonna fight pikets, will probably not spend 2 million on a weapon. Concentrate on one weapon type at first, like was said in a previous post. Make those good, and then expand. You'll do fine. I am a master WS/AS/Artisan, and I lose my mind with the number of resources, and trying to find all the "best" ones to make killer weapons.... slow down, have fun, and make good ones!

* Learn the profession rather than just grind it.
* Go up the technique branch first and play with experimentation on when it is still cheap (i.e. not 200cpu resources) to do it.
* Read all the FAQs and stuff. Read them before you start asking questions.
* Learn what all the resources are and start watching the spawns and vendors and auctions. Go to a lot of resource vendors and find the old spawn jewels. DO NOT beg the established smiths for resource hand-outs or even offer to buy some of their rarer stuff at less than market rates.
* Experiment on gloves (a lot of gloves), never stop experimenting on gloves (even after you're master)
* Make Mabari with quality resources to get a good product and sell it.
* Make Chitin and Ceremonial with quality resources to get a good product and sell it.
* Make Ubese with quality resources to get a good product and sell it.
* Stay out of Padded, that's mine *snicker*. Nah.. make Padded, too, when you get to that point and Black Mountain, too.
* Teach yourself how to make quality goods. Figure out why one resources is better than another, why one method of experimentation yeilds different results than another.
*Engage a smith on your server (like me *snicker*) in conversation that shows you've been reading the stuff and have been doing some experimenting, not that you just want the established smith to gift you with a bunch of stuff and hand-hold you.
*Don't expect to be rich instantly or even ever.
*Don't expect what you make to be the exact quality of the top smiths on the server, but make it to the absolute best you can. It will be noticed. It will be appreciated.
*Worry about getting top resources before you start worrying about tapes and worry about getting tapes before you start spending heaps of money getting looted components.

Armorsmithing can be -very- lonely. Armorsmithing is a lot of really nit-picky hard work if you get deep into it. Armorsmithing can also burn people out... bad.

I began playing 1 Jan. I mastered AS at the end of Feb. I didn't have a bank-roll to help me. I only had myself and my boyfriend (who also started 1 Jan). We ran artisan missions to fund our small resource business and used that to get him to architect master and then me to armorsmith master. We used missions and the resource business for a while more until we both were establised enough and my business started picking up to the point I was forced to beginning running suits in a factory just to keep the vendor stocked. I remember the first time I made 1 mil in sales in a day and 5 mil in a weekend. Now... I have 15 factories (I could use more but am resisting) and a 5 mil day is routine and I spend 20-50 mil a week in resources. I work at armorsmithing almost more than I would at a job (I am currently unemployed) and it's beginning to burn me out.

I have found that money cannot get everything i want unless i have endless amounts so patience is needed when building a ws business. Lots of harvesting and soon you'll have all the resources, keeping them all in order is a whole different matter
