Thread: Padded Armour A few questions

Ive recently tried to start making some padded (as a break from composite/ubese).

Now the main things im wondering about are:

A) How high can you push kinetic up and base up on padded armour?

B) What kind of HAMS are you talking about on high kinetic padded? (im guessing crazily high)

C) For low encumberance padded, what kind of HAM is achievable?

D) What kinda prices do both types of sets go for? Ive not met any padded armour specialists on my server yet!

Thanks in advance

a. Personally, I can get double kinetic layered padded up to 70% kinetic

b.Can't remember exactly, but it's in the ballpark of about 500/600/600

c.If someone wants the lowest kinetic padded around, I'd tell them to get some acklay hides (segments with zero encumbrance). My ackay padded has really, really low HAM, and decent energy protection. Great for faction farming.

d. Well... I don't make it for customers. I used to at 100K a set, but that was long, long ago and I don't have time any more. Because of the huge color palette, it's almost always a custom job, which I don't have time for any more.

EDIT: Just wanted to add, all that ot would take for me to start stocking padded armor would be for the yavin wooly requirement to go (25 units per segment!!!) and for the color to be changeable a la composite.

Getting the stats decent on padded is difficult, but seeing as I mostly sell it for the look I tend to target HAM. The only reason people really buy padded is for the styling and the color pallete, as the protection vs HAM isn't enough to make it popular.

A) I am making 77-79 Kin 48-50 base unenhanced at the moment. To push it higher, janta hide, rancor hide, krayt scales and voritor scales are great for padded since most of the pieces only take one segement.

B) Just like Caswell said - 500-600 with action sticking out high like a sore thumb

C) I usually only do energy or kinetic padded - I'll add NS shards if someone wants low HAM. You can knock 60 ham off of a suit using odd base ns shards in hand-crafted segments for boots, gloves, bis, and bracers. I made a 77 kin suit using shards in the 17-25 range and ended up with hams all around 300 or lower. I don't see much of a purpose in using all of that nice hide for an unlayered padded. Also, exceptional acklay segments will make very nice lightwieght high base segs as was stated above.

D) I charge 350k-400k per suit - this is with the inflated ahazi economy, though. Other smiths will charge about half that for a suit in the 70 kin range on my server.

A side note - I second Caswell's comment about the yavin wooly - it is a bear and the main reason aside from the myriad of colors that I do no even think about mass-producing padded. I approach it more like a tailor and tell the customer to bring clothing that has the colors they want. I will occasionally even make several "color swatch" pieces from junk segments (non adv or spare rancor) to give people an idea of what is possible for padded. The high amount of color choices is probably the best and worst feature of this armor

Good luck
