I don't know what I am thinking but hear me out. From some field tests with my wookie character, it seems that the damage from AP0 weapons is reduced by half, then by the stated percentage...got that. However, if my eyes are not deceiving me, the first half of the damage that was reduced is not removed from the PSG's durability. Can anyone else confirm this? So here is my crazy idea. Since right now, one intense fight can burn up a PSG which is very costly, what if I instead dump all experimentation into durability and leave the base protection as low as possible. In theory, would my PSG's not last muuuuch longer??? I know that this would be virtually no protection for weapons other than AP0, but as a wookie, I have grown accustomed to the lack of protection.
Just one other observation...the original PSG's I made had a kinetic vulnerability and after many shuttle hops, upon examination the levels of protection have varied widely (i.e the shifting coverage problem). Despite what the "examine" says though, I have never seen an instance where my armor protected a single point of kinetic damage....soooooo....maybe the label says it changed but it really didn't. Anyone else notice similar findings?

Ya may wanna try un equiping , then re-equiping the psg right before engaging in a fight. I haven't noticed anything like the PSG says Kinetic whatever and then not protecting against it even though it says it at the time.

I did try that and it seemed to make no difference...I have not tried unequipping before logging off and then re-equipping after logging back on. Don't know if it will make a difference but I am willing to try anything to get some benefits after "wasting" a lot of really good resources on them.

yes, I had a master armorsmith from a different server who came in and bought a couple of MK1's off of me, experimented all the way up in Durability. Yes, it will last much much longer than one with lots of resists. But it overall blocks less damage. So instead of it being burned up in one fight, I would still have 2/3 of it's durability left when you get incapped for the first time...then it would be at 1/3 after your second incap...then it would be dead at your 3rd incap. Does that make sense? It lasts longer, but it doesn't absorb as much damage per attack as the higher resist one. I am gonna look into this a little more, and see if I can come up with numerical data to tell what the effective difference is between these two cases.

It is the damage passed through a piece of armor / a shield after resists have been taken into account that adjust how much of a conditionloss the shield take. Currently it seems to be 1/10th of the damage passed through is taken as conditionloss.
So even though your MkI might last longer at higher condition and say 6% resists than your MkI at medium condition and 12% resists, that doesn't mean it is the case for higher resist shields like MkIIIs and the imperial test prototype shield. Since 6% and 12% compared to the 50% light armor, it is such a small amount.
Also, have your examine window open when the shield starts takeing a beating, then quickly unequip the shield and use a repairtool. With a bit of luck with the repair you can then reequip your shield and keep on tanking.
I have only sliced shields a few times, so I have yet to gather any data on how a slice affects the conditionloss, apart from the obvious lower damage due to higher resists (in case of an effectiveness slice anyway). However I can paste some of what I gathered:
37% base MkIII PSG sliced with a 23% effectiveness slice to 45%. I equipped this and fought a Narglatch Guardian, after it had hit me 45 times for a total of 4973 damage the shield was down to 732/996 condition.
