Hello all. I am a new armorsmith, I have spent a few months since I started playing slowly stockpiling resources to begin working on armorsmith. I finaly managed to get to Personal Armor 4 last night.. In a few days I'll try to replinish my supplies and then push for another line, and within a few weeks hit master Armor. Howevery all my time playing this game has been spent either grinding xp for armorsmithing, or collection money by missions, milking runs, things like that.. I have never really looked at the finer points on being a "Good" Armorsmith. I'm looking ahead at quality resources I would like to start to stockpile for making above average armor, and wow.. there are SO many to remember... How do you remember what you need, and which qualitys are important? What should I concentrate on most when experimenting on my armor.. For instance, I notice that ubese+ armor requires "Neutronium steel" I haven't seen it for a week on Cor, or on SWGCraft at all, so I assume its very rare... If its low quality, would it screw up the whole suit of armor?

I'm starting to realize i'm never going to be able to mine everything I use by myself, I'm going to have to start buying some of the harder to find resources - the problem that presents, it throws in another angle.. Now I have to be good at knowing the going rate of materials....

Lol.. I'm starting to pull my hair out, and I have YET to make a suite of armor that wasn't bone...

So, please.. this board is a great resource and I have been searching, but throw a noob a bone =) How do yo manage YOUR resources? How do you keep track of what makes a GREAT suit of armor?

Thanks

Decipio.

Midway in my progress through armorsmith I realized I would need some specialized resources. At that point I listed ALL the named resources for the armor, then harvested some of each as it came available. This cut back my harvest of grind materials, but then I was in no hurry so it all worked out. Also, I was advised to focus on the OQ and SR of my materials, as they affect the resists that seem to be about all people care about.

The special resources (neutronium steel, etc) are not especially rare, but it may take several months to get a shift of each one worth using.

Swgcraft.com is your friend, both to see the frequency of the named resources occuring, what you need for various armors, and what is currently available to be harvested.

I prefer running a small business, so am still self-harvesting 90% of my materials. If you are out of lots, buy power. Join a guild and borrow lots (guilds love having a personal armorsmith).

Hope this helps a bit.

Thank you Buugli.

I have started looking ahead for good quality stuff - things I would want to have a ton of, but have only been doing that for a few days, I haven't found anything yet.

Armorsmith is not an easy profession, just a lot of information to digest in the last few weeks, trying to learn what makes a GOOD product.. I'm not really interested in selling tons of armor, just interested in making GOOD armor.

There are a ton of resources We neeed, so its a bit overwhelming.

What is the best to spend experimentaion points on? in your opinions? HAM? Effective? etc...

Thanks

Yeah its a lot to deal with. Most armorsmiths I know (myself included) specialize in one or two items. This helps minimize the large info flood. See what you like making and try to get good resources for that.

Yep, I just mastered armorsmith about 3 to 4 weeks ago and so far i've collected only resoruces for composite armor. I had lots of funds left over from my previous (pre 3 month hiatus) weaponsmithing endeavors so i stocked up on all the resources i needed for armorsmith in about 2 weeks. From what i've found out i got about the 2nd or 3rd best ever of everything that has ever spawned on the server (except my colat and naboo fiberplast which are the best yey) and so i'm beginning experimental trials to lower the ham on my suits now. I have gotten some horrendous Ham costs lately but all in all you just need to collect the resources and then play around with it a bit, read up on swgcraft.com and these forums here and in no time you should get a good feel for the profession. Lookin forward to visting your vendor

Several things.

For the specifics, write down what you need for each level on your /notepad. This helps for a quick look when shopping. Eventually you will memorize it all.

Second, make a pack for each type (or at least for each two types) I currently keep about 10 packs....IMP PGSs, Grind, Build Quality, Organics, Composite, Padded, Ubese, Other Armor, and Layers. In each one, I put the best Specific Resources I have for that armor. I put the best overall stuff I have in my Build Quality Pack (best general Iron, Steel, Fiberplast, Polymer, Copper, etc...), this includes non-specific hides. That way, when i am crafting anything, I only need my Build-Quality pack and the pack for what I am crafting.

So for Composite, first I get my Build Quality, and Layers pack. I make the best possible layers I can, (Layers only has a couple things in it, Vertex Gem, Crism Ore, etc for stun and elec layers...) usually using only stuff from my Build Quality pack. Then I get my Composite pack, adn make the advanced segments. This uses several specifics, and no general stuff, so I only really need the Composite pack. Then for the final piece combine, I first use my general pack, getting the best non-specific stuff I have, then open to my composite pack and fill in the specifics with the best i have in that.

This system works pretty good for me, I just keep all these packs in my Safety Deposit box, so I can get to em easily, and use my crafting droid in a research city.

All my stuff I have harvested myself, with my 7 lots or so. I have 1 fusion, which gets me all the power I need, 1 large chemical, and 6 large mineral to get whatever I need. First, get a small stack of each specific, even if it is crappy quality. Even 1-5k will last you for a little while when you get started. Then, go after specifics with your harvies as much as possible. Use the Chemical on naboo mostly, or Correlia, or whatever is the best quality. You don't need much more than 50-75k of this stuff to last for a long while. Once you have that and some good polymer, you can put your chemical away for a while.

As for minerals, I first go after any specific that is an upgrade from what I have. After that, I concentrate on best available. Third in line is a specific that is lower quality than what I have (depending on how much I have of that one). I don't make a ton of stuff, so I figure that enough to make 100 suits is a good enough amount to collect. But if it is a really good material, I get as much as possible, and even pay for others to get some.

There was a list posted recently (I believe it was in the Gated Resources Disertation Sticky) which lists the best stats for the different minerals. It tells, based on the 'gates' which resources usually have the best stats. Look for good spawns of these to fill up your "Build Quality' pack (read above), as they will usually have higher overall stats.

Hey Sniper!

Any droid crafted by a droid engineer with a crafting module installed will work! I'm not sure what the exact name of the crafting module is - but it is fairly cheap, I believe.. I think it will go in any model droid, so it could be even a cheap mouse droid.

I guess I just need to see what sells the most... I'm assuming its between Sheilds, Composite and Ubese... I have re-read the "gated' materials thread above like 3-4 times, and I guess its just too early in the morning for me to comprehend everything =)

Could someone tell me what an above average suit of ubese sells for, and a set of composite? An exceptional set?

I dont think I will be able to sell "Top of the line" sets, till I get a few good material spawns.. I don't have the cash to buy much of the 10-15+cpu resources, all of my cash (And then some) are going for cheap grinding materials now =)

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all your help.

Be sure your droid has a clothing and armor crafting station in it. Food etc will not work for armor. Also, if you can afford it, look for one with a 10-item storage unit and a 150 item datapad storage. Pricing varies by server, but I got a couple like this for 21k recently on Chilastra.

I have been stockpiling and buyinghide and other resources like crazy for months before i started armorsmithing. (over 9 digits spend) The stuff you pull out of the ground is not too bad to get, you just have to wait a while before something good appears. hide is the biggest problem for armorsmith, wooly hide is over 50cpu on interpid and leathery is not far behind. My main character is a MBH so i can hunt for my own hide. Best thing to do is the harvest your own resources, orhire people to hunt and mine for you. (its getting harder to do that when alot of miners are holding current resources and only sell it for $$$$$ when the resouces becomes extinct).
