Thread: A Question for the experts Shield Generators

I've got a human (Novice) Pistoleer character, for whom I just bought a Shield Generator, for a hefty price (45 K) but it has 33% vs. energy and 43% vs. most everything else (except cold and heat). Looked real good to me so I dropped the credits. (The charge is still very near the full 2000 or so mark).

My question is-- how do I know if it's working? Since equipping with it, it seems I get incapped with perhaps greater frequency than in the recent past (when I had a minimal 6% vs. Energy and 2% vs. a few other things Shield)? Are there certain pre-requisites I need to use the Shield properly?

So the stats as I examine it all look legit and effective, but in practice it doesn't seem to be working. Did I get ripped off? Or is there some bug all you expert armorsmiths out there are aware of with Shield Generators?

Here's hoping some of you armorsmiths out there can give me advice on this issue. Thanks.

May the Force be with you.

unequip and requip the psg before you go into battle. crossing server boundaries is one of the things that causes stat shifting and disables the psg

As a protector, failure is not an option. if you fail not only does your future end, but the future of the one you're trying to protect ends as well.

also, keep your eye on your Combat Log while you are fighting. IF you don't see your shield reducing damage on every hit, it isn't working, and you need to un-equip/re-equip. They can be difficult to use, but helpful when they work.

You're being effected by the "stat shift" bug. Examine your shield from time to time and notice that the resists and vulnerabilities "shift". When it's vulnerable to something, it won't protect against it.

It changes when you cross "server boudries" while traveling. Shuttle, vehicle or walking.

If it has the protection you need, you may need to un-equip/equip to get it to work.

Supposedly, SOE is working to fix this problem. I usually carry 5-6 and look at them before battle.

Make sure you don't let the condition get too low, as the chances to fix it are greatly decreased. I usually try to repair mine when it gets to around 50%.

Personally, I think shields are great. Just a little of a pain to use. I expect huge sales of these once they're fixed.

Thanks everybody so far for your quick, informative replies.

I'll try that equip, re-equip thing most of you are suggesting.

Hope they get that fix done, because if this "psg" works as well as its stats say it will (they haven't shifted as far I can remember, but....), it'll be a big help in combat.

Thanks again. I look forward to any other suggestions y'all might have.

Update: I unequipped and re-equipped the psg whenever I traveled for the couple hours I was on last night. However I didn't yet get to test it in combat.

But one other question from a guy unfamiliar with psg's-- they're Imperial make? But they aren't Faction only, are they? Can neutrals and Rebs use them too? I thought only Faction bought (and Recruiter provided) armor wasn't useable by opposing or non-faction users? Am I wrong?

Thanks for helping me overcome my base ignorance about psg's

As for the Imperial make shields, you have to be Imperial to run the quest. Once you do, you get a disc. That disc can only be decoded by a Master Armorsmith, but it doesn't matter whether imperial or not. Then you get 5 prototypes, which can make single or factory runs of the shields. Anyone can wear them.

5k for shields, that is absurdly low. for the time it takes you to run all 6 subcomponents in your factories, as well as the materials, they are worth much more than that. I charge 30k for my imperial ones....I was previously selling the MK-3 for 17.5k.

Thanks for the further info. I think what I got is a "Prototype" (from which the armorsmith made several other PSG's listed on his vendor).

But you're saying that it should still work for me even though I'm not Imperial faction? OR is the prototype itself faction only? (Note: there was no info about having to be Imperial Faction or the like in the seller's description of the psg I bought, nor any indication on it when I examine it's stats).

As I still haven't tested it in combat, if it fails I'm just looking for a reasonable explanation why. Hopefully it won't.

Thanks again for all the very helpful and expert info.

Was able to "combat test" my PSG last night, and thanks to the advice given above, it seems to be working. I got through several combats with hardly any wounds and minimal HAM bar reductions (though I had to unequip/re-equip the PSG a couple times as suggested).

Everyone's help and information was much appreciated. Thanks a lot.
