Thread: When do you recommend repairing armor?

Three questions for you all if I may:

1. When do you recommend repairing composite armor? That is, after how much damage/decay?

2. I assume only an armorsmith can repair armor? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

3.I know it varies greatly, but on average what should I expect to pay to repair a full set of composite armor (on StarSider if it helps).

Thanks much.

1. I repair my armor at 49%, I don't see any point in settling for resists lower than your armor can give you (resists start dropping when armor goes below 50% condition)...And if I fail it's not a big deal for me to replace it, being an armorsmith and all.
2. Anyone can repair armor with an armor repair kit. Armorsmiths currently get no bonus to armor repair so you are just as good as anyone else.
3. I can find crates of 5 99%+ 5 use armor repair tools for 3k on the bazaar so, figure 2 tools to repair a full set of armor, that's about 1200 credits.

Thanks much for the info, greatly appreciated. In your opinion, would there be any reason for me to go to an armorsmith for the repair? With their bonus, would they have a better chance of a better repair than I, no armorsmith with no bonus? Thanks again.

There is no armorsmith bonus.

Also beware that the longer you wait to repair your armor (and lower the durability goes) the more likely you are to have a repair which drastically reduces the max durability. Also if you repair armor at 0/xxx durability, the armor seems ot be bugged and you get negative stats. So i'd avoid letting it get that low.

i can tell you there is. before i was an master armorsmith or even a armorsmith i never got a repair armor to a minor blemish condition message. its was with +13 armor repair tapes. after mastering armorsmith using the same tapes and reapair kits i am repair armorto minor blemish condition.

I found something similar as well. Before I became Master Armorsmith, but with Techniques IV, I had heard that it didn't matter. I tried repairing a set of Comp and failed (fell apart) 3 times in a row using 98% Armor Repair kits.At that point I quit and told the guy to find a Master Armorsmith.

I didn't attempt repairing Comp again until master. Now I can repair a whole suit with 95% Armor Repair kits and don't get a single fail. However, almost out of superstition, I do all of my repairs at Armor crafting stations with a 40+ rating. That may be the difference as well? I heard that it was, but this is all just hearsay.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge, anecdotal or experimental, about this?

Armorsmiths, and othe smiths, do have a Statistic for Armor Repair, but all testing I have ever seen show that it is not working, and anyone has the same chance as anyone else. Sure, you may have had bad luck at Tech IV, but i have it all the time as a master too. i have failed on 4/5 pieces in a row before on several occasions. It is very complex issue, so for that, i would suggest going with your gut.

If you believe that armorsmiths have a better chance, or like the RP aspect of taking your armor to an armorsmith for repair, do that. If you think you can do it as well as they can, do that.

I don't like ruining strangers armor, cause i know that if I fail, i just cost this person between 10-50k per item. That sucks for me to think about. For this reason, I charge 3k per item to repair, which means that less people ask me to repair their stuff. That and the fact that i tell them up front that i have no better chance than they do at success, adn I get alot less customers. Usually I just sell em the 99% tools to do it with. Oh, and I don't charge the 3k on a piece that fails either.
