is having one of these advantageous during a fight? I'm not exactly sure how psgs work now with the recharge and efficiency numbers.

Probably not although it is hard to say for sure. Before the CU, a PSG offered full protection until its condition dropped just like armor did. An ADK'ed PSG offered full protection all the time.
With the CU, a PSG's protection and it's condition are separate. Efficiency is the measure of how much of the PSG's full protection you are getting. The protection drops as the PSG takes damage. The PSG will recharge at a rate corresponding to its--you guessed it--recharge rate. Exactly how long it takes to get to 100 percent efficiency depends on the recharge rate and how high the protection is. Each time the PSG recharges, it will lose a little condition.
So theoretically an ADK'ed PSG would not lose condition, but it would still lose its energy protection in a fierce fight.
