Thread: Is BH armour stealing RIS lustre- Question Posed

Greetings... I am not a regular to the AS forum so forgive the direction of this thread if not quite inline with the norm....

I am curious to find out whether I am the only one who finds it confusing as to why BH armour seems to be the special deal now and RIS has lost its lustre? Reinforced Insulated Sheathingusedto have a special place in this game and for the MAS who wanted to take his crafting to the next level it was an honour to certify? Yes there is Mando which rightfully so imo should be the rarest stuff however I see that as a feat of aquisition rather than a craftsmens quality.......

Currently I have seen BH armour suits selling for up to 28million on the trades. Now sure there is a rareity to a degree of the drops for the schemes etc. But what the hell for? I suppose my point is this,

WHY THE HELL should RIS take a back seat to BH armour? It seems like RIS is becoming as common as Tantel was pre CU. There seems to be little if any effort to aquire it now. A new player can log in week one and essentially within a day, if he has any focused ambition in that direction can aquire a set for CHEAP! And unfortunately theRIS resists are not anything to boast about even in the best suits now?!

There seems to be as many Bounty Hunters playing as jedi running around... or is that just Ahazi?....and Bounty Hunters seem to have a better option on super loot than any other regular profession? But I am straying with those observations...lol....

What is the point of being a certified RIS crafter?

It's really just a matter of supply and demand.

With Bounty Hunter being the most popular profession according to the latest astromech stats, it's little wonder that Bounty Hunter Armor has become a very popular thing to get. However, unlike RIS armor, it is much more time consuming to gather all the schematics needed to make a full suit of BH Armor.

Although battle armor certification is granted to the largest number of professions, in my experience most folks eschew using it if they can wear recon or assault instead, particularly for the powergamer types. Melee combatants often have TKA, so they just go unarmored. Those who wish to wear RIS, though, can often get all the components needed for a full suit in a day or two of hunting.

While its harder to get than most other armours the loots required for it have become very very easy to get. Once upon a time I'd go hunting and consider myself extremely lucky to get one lot of GDK scales. Now I kinda expect 4-5 stacks per hunting trip. Personally I prefered it that way..made RIS that much more special. On the other hand all the other battle armours look horrible

BH armour actually takes longer to get, its also newer...no idea how this will change over time.

Maybe we'll get a high level recon armour type that will be on par with RIS in the good ol'days

First, BH armor is the flavor of the month. It's new, and everyone wants it.

Second, there are lots and lots of bounty hunters now who are certified for assault armor but many do not have the master battle armor cert for RIS. Lots of them have doc but aren't master, nor are they likely to be master carbineers.

Third, I'm seeing a LOT more RIS loot now than before the CU, and as you noted, it is much easier to make, which makes it more common. I'm getting so many GDK scale offers that I wish people would go hunt gurk kings for a while. Only bounty hunters can get the BH armor schems but anyone get get the RIS loot.

What's the point of being RIS certified? Well, the RIS quest is just about the only quest for crafters in the game. So there's some content for you (whoo hoo). RIS is still a very cool looking armor. And I think RIS certification is still a signification accomplishment for any up-and-coming smith. We should get a badge for it.

Yes I guess my personal take on things is that RIS .... and I have never been a crafter.... is something truly special OR WAS

Whether you like it or not, RIS is Strangely unique and has a true mystique to it....

I slaved to aquire all the necessary stuff ...and not just the main looted obvious components but the specific highest quality resources and high level base cubes etc for my first suit...... and the day I had Aliscia craft all those slaved for ingredients together by the recipe at the time we had researched etc to be the best to max stats and sockets pre-slice for me was a special day... that was pre-cu obviously....

After the CU the conversion was... ARGGGhhhhhhH!...completely what they had indicated the transition would not be for our best armours. I still have yet to have that dust gathering suit recrafted.......

I have lost so much as of CU and I dealt with all of that with an open mind etc. and swallowed it. BUT for me the toughest swallows have been:

1.) Seeing my Datapad of SUPER RARE extremely experienced fighting pets become average and/or mainly USELESS! ie:my Bull Rancor, Great Plains Stalker, Frenzied Graul and DeathHead Merek etc.plus some truly Uber (in the correct context of the word) BE pets!

2.) Demise of my once truly treasured RIS Nowthat set could not be sold for 6-7 million unless I was fortunate OR it will take a completely NEW recipe to boost it to where it SHOULD have converted MAXED (preslice at least). They indicated that current armours would convert inline with what we had pre-cu. SOE essentially LIED!

I agree RIS crafters SHOULD be awarded a special Badge ... even though, again, I am not nor do Iintend to become a crafter

To me RIS is an artform within the game that has been abused by the devs affecting spawns and treatment of "New Bling" (Flava, Candy, Jewelry, bla bla bla) in the game. This is not argumentative about new content it is a point regarding what one would expect are constant institutions in the game.... for lack of better verbiage ...lmao

All that aside,

Would one still not think though that the Mando armour and RIS should adorn the HIGHEST resists?

It also depends on your server as well. For instance on my server wild spawns in the southern hemisphere of Lok have been busted for a while now. That leaves only the static spawn at Kimo Town for a reliable source of the scales.

I think over time though BH armor will be much easier to make. There are a ton of BHs out there running missions and eventually everyone will have a suit or two of BH armor. The schematics will probably be very readily available on vendors shortly.

Still though in my opinion battle armor is the best in the game, and RIS tops the cake with the massive amount of condition it has.

I put my first full sets of RIS armour on a vendor this morning, both sold within 90 mins for 8m each. Seems to be good demand.

Saying that I probably wont get many more sales now but im still going to make sure I have a few sets on vendor.

From a combat player (and newly armorsmith alt) perspective... RIS still has the lure it once had. The fact that the components drop more opens up an even bigger demand for it because not only the richest players can get it. I've always wanted the armor as a combat player and am now striving for it as new armorsmith. I've made myself and friends the BH armor and RIS still is the "elite" armor in terms of "being someone" in the galaxy.

BH Armour = Assalt

RIS = Battle

If you can wear assault and not battle, then which would you choose? or visa versa?

Just out of curiousity what does that have to do with the thread posted? If you are looking to advertise go to the Trade forums.....

Obviously RISwill keep selling till EVERYONE who can wear it and collectors too have a set. Truth is 8 million is CHEAP for relatively decent RIS.... but it is truly sad to see sets selling fairly recently as cheap as 4 million on Ahazi trade forums

Hmmmm ....not sure if I can agree with that, fully anyway/anymore, if anyone can snag it relatively easy and the stats are SO SO how does that make it an elite armour?
