Thread: looted armor segments

I've been told by Master Armorsmiths that Looted Armor Segments (Voritor Lizard, Rancor Padded Armor, etc...) are not worth anything because the advanced segments that can be crafted are much better than the looted segments.

Is this true? If so, why have segment drops at all? I would assume that rare drops should be REQUIRED to make exceptional armor...

I think this should be included in an FAQ but I've not seen it anywhere? What are the relative values of these segments based on the stats? Is there an algorithm for this so Rangers know what to charge for them?

Thanks,

Can someone at least make a comment on this? I'd really appreciate knowing what to do with these loots. If the answer is to throw them away, so be it. I just don't know.

Well... my main experience has just been with Krayt segments, so I'll use that as an example. There are several reasons why someone would tell you this:

1) My unlayered Advanced segments are 19% right now. So you would have to bring me at least 20% segments in order for them to even have a chance of turning out better than what I can make alone. There are plenty of smiths that can go even higher than this. If you had all 1000 quality on all segments you'd have 30% segments I believe.

2) You cannot add layers to Krayt segments so there is no chance of raising any of the stats any higher with layers.

3) Krayt segments push all the resists to special protection... so you cant get an effectiveness slice on them. You'd have to have some amazing segments to even get to 80%. 90% would be almost impossible.

I don't know completely how the other segments work, but I'm sure some of the reasoning is the same. Unless you have just amazing segments they aren't really any better than what a smith can make. The big thing you might get off of them though is integrity/hit points. So they might last longer than withsmith made segments. I'm sure someone with more experience could give you a better idea.

I'll add this...

Segments could be worth something to someone who cant hit the higher numbers with their resources. 17% krayt segments would be worth a lot more to somone who can only hit 15% than they would be to me. Course a smith like that may not be as rich as somone who can make 80/67 armor anyways so you might not get as much money. Bottom line is that they are probably worth something to someone, it just may not be worth your time to find out who that someone is...

Krayt Scales put all resists in special, Krayt Segments leave all resists as normal (sliceable).

Hi,

just about all of my pre curb loot seems to have turned into assault and battle armor segment, rated 820 across the board.

I've found that the segment cap is 1000, but I'd like to know how these compare to crafted ones (ergo if they're useful)

Thanks

You can pretty much trash all those 820 segments unless your current stock of resources is REALLY bad.

You can make 820 segments if your OQ+SQ for all your resources averages to 820 - which is really crappy to begin with.

Most of us can top 900 fairly easily so it's basically junk.

I have made some real good budget bone armor with cores that are around 800, the stuff comes out at about 3200 protection.

Also is it possible to fix damaged cores, or do you just throw them out?

You mean that last one from a stack of looted cores that the game says is damaged? Try an armor repair tool on it. That's always worked for me.

believe it or not some people will pay a mill or so for your to toss them up a suit of decoration armor made out of cheap cores
