When is the best time to repair armor?

What are the pros/cons risks/reqards for repairing early and late?

I've only just now started wearing armor on a regular basis for grinding.... since I can now afford to, but I find myself never too sure about when I should repair it. 50% ? 30% ?

My questions are above.

As I'm sure this has already been asked NUMEROUS times, I was very supprised the jist of this information was not already in the official faq.

You might also wish to add the not that armorsmiths do not get a bonus to repair mod, such as weaponsmiths do.

Thanks in advance for your answers/input.

the reason it's not in there is because no one really knows for certain, and, at least I have never seen any official post on this.

I am a master AS, and have a 2nd toon which I have hologrinded with. I noticed a few things with armor. I reccommend repairing them at no lower than 50% cond. the reason why is if you keep wearing it down, you'll notice the resists % starts going down as well. I also suspect that it increases the chance of failure.

Armorsmiths receive no Visiblely Apparent skill listing for repair, but I'm sure there is something coded in. as an example I have 15.00 repair tools <the best possible in the game>. I tested 2 full suits of composite theat i had worn down to around 50% with my master armorsmith, and my 2nd toon with onlymaster artisan, and mostly combat skillz. My master Armosmith repaired all 9 pieces successfully, with 8 minor blemishes, and 1 reduced max cond. My other toon completely failed to repair 8 of the pieces and, marginally repaired the gloves (least complex item). This leads me to believe that the Item's complexety and condition determine some part of who can repair it. for example PSG's start out with a complexity of 60, then when you experiment the complexity increases. I can't confirm this, but the ADV comp sets i've made by dumping 7 experiment points down, have a slightly less complexity number and seem to "minor blemish" repair more often (i.e. Complexity 62) than if i did single point incrediments(i.e. complexity 70). the only problem with this is, only the AS knows what the compexities are he's making, and really no one ever even looks at that number, because it's thought that the number has more to do with assembly and experiment success.

finally there are skill tapes and looted clothing and weapons that have the "repair" and/or "armor repair" skill mod. It is widely believed that these make a difference per single point and not per 10 like experimentation. I reccommend you seek out an Armorsmith with at least a few skill points to repair, just my opinion. The one outstanding thing to remember is. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO GUARENTEE THAT YOUR ARMOR CAN SUCCESSFULLY BE REPAIRED. My Master AS has repaired alot of armor, probably over 500 pieces. He has also completely failed about 5%-10% of the time. and marginal repairs seem to be the norm since the post publish 7 crafting removal patch.

SO my advise from playing both sides of the table,

Seek out a Master AS that has some repair skill tapes etc

see him when your armor is at 50% condition

pay him at least 20k for the service, or 10k if you provide the repair tools.

if he breaks a piece, you can easily purchase a new one since the AS is right there.

.... using the 50% rule i have repaired my 80 kin Advanced Comp set completely 7 times before i broke the bracers. and the rest is still going strong at 12 repairs. maybe it's cause i'm repairing armor I made? again no one Really knows the answers.

hope this was somewhat helpfull.

Is this only related to Composite armors?

I've just finished the holo grind.. and I go through Ubese armor like mad.. repairing between 10% and 30%

Probably 30 repairs that I've made... and not once did I ever get a failure messege of any kind, or ruin a single piece.

Again.. that was on 71% kin ubese.

Perhaps I'm just lucky.... but with my grind, I doubt it
