OK b4 you guys go off on me, yes i have searched it, and no my qestions were not andswered.

Questions:

#1. When is the best time to repair armor? (ex. 12/25000 or 10000/25000)
#2. Does a weapon or armorsmith get a bounus to repairing?
#3. If I use a 99.xx% Repair Tool how much of the protection and defence will be taken off if it works?
#4. After the armor gets its Hit-points down to a certain lvl say 1000/25000 does the defence decrease? If so, does repairing restore it?
#5. Do diffrent types of armor have diffrent chances to work?
#6. Are these answers actualy known, or are they just speculation with experience?

Thank you for your answers! I have been playing for 7-days and I just got a set of 80% Kinetic Composit Armor and im VERY touchy about when to use it. Im affraid of wearing it down and having the defence go to **edit**. I feel it is a big acomplishment to have that good of armor so early....Im proud of myself...hehe....

Armour repair is a sick joke on armorsmiths. We don't have any apparent bonuses. Personally, I would wear my armour down to being almost useless, like 100 out of its max, then try to fix it. If it fails, so what, you got alot of use from it, and just replace the broken or badly damaged pieces.

For best chance of armour repair, repair at half its condition, but if it fails, you lost alot.

If it fails, is my armor taken to 0/250000 or is it destoryed, i wont be as pissed if i can still wear it, cuz it looks cool. At 0/25000 the protection is 0% right? Is the Encumberance at 0/0/0 as well?

First...encumbrance is still in effect when the armor is useless for protection (1/1, 0/35000, -23454/35000).

Mostly, armor repair is speculation...based on experience.

1 - I would repair armor at 50% condition or below. I refuse to repair armor that's not damaged much. The repair can do more damage than was already there.

2 - I've heard it stated that we do have a better chance, but haven't seen any evidence of this. The better chance is minimal...at best. Personally, I'd use a smith.

3 - Again, haven't seen hard facts. My understanding is, it controls how much condition is lost. If you have a 99% tool and 1000 condition, the best repair (minor blemishes)will drop the condition to 990. Maybe one day I'll experiment with different tools (and cheap armor).

4 - Again...speculation. I've heard that the chances of success are lower below 50%, but have not experienced this.

5 - Speculation. Supposedly, the more complex the armor, the lower the chances for repair. This may include sliced pieces as well.

6 - There ya go. Unless someone can see the code or get answers from SOE, it will continue to be speculation. This is where statistics can come into play, but who wants to do the experimentation needed to generate a good analysis.

Personally, I wear my armor until the resists start getting too low. How low? You'll have to base that on your comfort level. If I'm out hunting, I've got a pretty good idea how much damage is being dealt and can judge it better. I'm in agreement with the other guy. Wear it until it's almost gone. That way the worse case is a destroyed piece, that you couldn't really wear anyways.

Oh..and unless you have a replacement, it's not a good idea to do a repair when in a dungeon. How bad would it suck to fail a chest plate repair right before Ackley spawns? Cuzz ya know Murphey will step in...every time.

The absolute key is the tool you use... use a 99.7777% or better tool and you can fix armor reasonably well, but amazingly you will still get some fails To get these tools, either buy them (6000 creditsfor 5 shots) or find LOL yes 990+ conductivity metal, harvest tons, and make them at a crafting station. Use the b. port crafting drink at the station to make the schematic... and let the factory do the rest. I fix my friends armor maybe three times and then it is useless. They tend to use the fixed armor for grindinfg since the stats of course are lower... but it allows them to save the uber for PVP and the like. Also, armor that is at 0 always fails and even gives negative values?? after a fix. Hope that helps...

On Kettemoor, before i became an armorsmith i destroyed almost every piece of armor I owned and have not destroyed a piece since. I whole heartedly believe that there is a hidden improvement by being a master armorsmith for repairs. Using the same repair tools as before I do much better. Not sure whether the armor repair tapes help anymore or not, I am considering buying up about +10 of them and sticking them on a low ham suit to play with and test out.

I personally think repairs get worse with master AS, My TK alt does a better job. Buy the tools yourself and live with the results. I sell 99.99999%'s like water but I wont use one at all anymore.

Ever since I picked up a +2 to armor repair, I seemed to have went from regular failures to almost never fail.

As far as armorsmith having some inate ability to fix armor... forget it. I've seen no proof that master armorsmith does any better job than anyone else.

I've been tracking all my repairs for almost 2 months now so I'll try to answer based on my experience.

1 - I've had equal "chances" of a repair at all levels from barely scratched to almost dead, but as repair can do some nasty damage (bit of an oxymoron, but thats what SOE things makes sense... ) I've reduced max condition to below what the actual damage was before so I wouldn't recommend repairs until at least the 50% mark.

2 - SOE has never explained how it works but from my experience my Rifle/Ranger alt, with no artisan skill at all, can repair just as well as my Master Armorer / Master Artisan / Master Droid Engineer.

3 - I use 100% tools and find that repairs run at approx. 5% / 20% / 30% / full fail (damage to Max Condition) depending on the succes rating, stats don't appear to be affected by repair tools and tools don't influence your chances of success..

4 - Yup, as the armor is damaged below a certain point the stats will begin to fall, a repair will return them to normal, unless the armor is very worn at which point it will only bring the stats to a certain level based on max cond.

5 - Not sure on this one and SOE's policy of "keep them in the dark" makes any answer a guess.

6 - Refer to #5... the lack of actual facts from SOE make it all guess work based on experience.

My Spreadsheet grows larger by the day.. and so does the number of times I refuse to repair any armor other than guildmates, and they are well aware of my feelings toward the "repair" joke and accept the consequences (heh, and since I'm a soft touch they gladly take the replacement parts I offer )

Well, I just tried this with +3 to Armor reprair and destroid 2 full suits of composite to 1/1 condition with 99.99999% tools. None if it was sliced and it was the first repair for everything. Then I tried it with +18 to Armor repair same thing except 1 pair of boots went from 19k/35k to 12k/12k.

Hows that for an answer? I'll never repair for a customer, ever. Let them buy the tools and let them break it themselves.

what did you use to get the bonus on the repairs when you destroyed these parts?

just curious.
