I bought a PSG and tried it without armor, but it doesn't seem to do anything, although it is loosing condition points. Do these things need armor in order to work?

Ya they work without armor, click on the combat tab in your chat screen at the bottom, you will see it says (so and so) attacked you for X amount of damage. Then under that it should say PSG protected for X amount of damage.

I can't tell you why..but on Corbantis to get the PSG to work you must unequip it and then re-equip it before battle. And it goes to zero in a hurry.

Mine (Starsider) never says anything on the combat screen. I have the Imperial prototype version, but I'm neutral - could this be the problem?

No,

Faction has nothing to do with it at all, anyone can use them.

The original post never stated what kind of damage they were tring to protect against either, that makes a big difference as all PSG's are vulnerable to certain things.

PSG's do not protect against kinetic damage at all so if you were getting hit by a TKA...forget it, that's not what these things are for. What most people use them for is to augment existing armors that have no Stun protections. PSG's wear out fast when getting hit by hi level mob's or PC's, I reccomend that customers using them in PvP have 2 of them on a hotbar key so they can hot swap them in battle if needed.

Look at your PSG and notice the special protect is energy, it then has a few other categories like Stun (cant remmeber the others) under base resists. Next the vulnerabilities are listed and if you get hit with that kind of damage it will not protect you at all.

Hope this helps
