I have finally completed the collection phase of my RIS set and am approximately 75 million credits poorer for it...

http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=87185&poll_id=0&warned=y

I will be waiting until after the combat rebalance/armor nerf results are known to craft my full set of RIS Armor though. I have made about 12 or 13 pieces of RIS so far, but not a complete set for a single person yet. (lots of helmets... heh) Looking forward to more comprehensive RIS Armor crafting posts until that time.

Thanks to all armorsmiths out there for documenting and sharing your RIS experimentation results. We must share our lessons learned since this is not an armor type we get much practice with.

First complete RIS set made for myself on Aug 1, 2004 with stats of approx 75% Kinetic/4% Stun/5% Acid/65% Base/vuln to Lightsaber. (unsliced)

Diwo (Master Armorsmith/Master Smuggler) - Semi-retired but still making RIS (email me for a guide on what you need for RIS)
Dharmonn (Swordsman)

DCORP Armorcrafting (Armor Division partially operating with 80% Kinetic Composite and 75% Kinetic Ubese up for sale)

What are your plans for layering with your RIS? Are you planning on going 1 NS layer, 1 Acid layer, and 1 stun layer? That might seem like to best way to go, but I would avoid that for a couple reasons...

  1. Keep in mind the current bugs with AR and AP. Namely, if someone fires against you with an AP2 acid weapon, such as the DXR-6b Rifle, you'll actually take MORE damage with a single acid layer than if you were vulnerable to acid. You'll need your acid resistance to be at least 20% before you'd actually see a benefit against an AP2 weapon.

  2. Even if the bug in #1 is fixed, you can always get stun resistance from a PSG, but you CAN'T get acid resistance from a PSG, thus a piece of stun/acid layered RIS paired with a PSG would have more of a weakness than that of an all acid layered piece of RIS paired with the same PSG.

My suggestion would be to instead use 1 NS and 2 high resist acid layers, or possibly even go with 3 acid layers. Sure, your RIS pieces would still be vulnerable to stun, but that's what a PSG is for. Another option, if you are planning on going for encumbrance slices, would be to try to get some yellow named Krayt Scales. I saw some for sale on Starsider the other day that had +10% to Acid.

haha 75 million is a good price compare to how much a piece of GDK scale is selling for around 7-10+million each

I am hoping to get my hands on some NS Layers higher than 9%, but am wondering what the current cap is for them. One armorsmith has noted using a 30% NS Layer but I wonder if this layer was from when nightsisters first appeared and the Base % cap was nerfed afterward.

Likewise I know someone with 10% Janta Hides but they were from the first few weeks they started dropping.

I used two 10% and a 14% NS layers on my chesplate, they were non exceptional. The 30% layer you are referring to was an exceptional. Generally you don't see over 9% drop non exceptional these days.

No idea on the janta hides, ive never seen over 5%.

One of my in-game friends was at the Fan-Fest and informed me that the devs hinted that RIS would be worth the effort after the combat rebalance/armor nerf goes live.

Now whether this means they will modify the stats/vulns/etc or that it will just be better than everything else at that point I don't know.... What I do know is that this set will not be crafted until after that update goes live and/or the post patch changes are known. I am sure the defensiveresistance needswill change after the combat rebalance and I will need to assess the new damage amounts and make a new determination on what is most important (especially if the vulnerabilities are juggled around in the armor nerf and if armor HAM cost actually starts to matter). If armor HAM cost matters again I will need to look really hard at the NS layers and possibly using Shards instead of Janta Hides to cut the HAM cost down more to facilitate specialattack usage.

I plan for this RIS set to be my PvP combat set after the combat rebalance/armor nerf and my combat character has already been trained up as a Master Swordsman. (with Ranger Tracking of course to facilitate more loot gathering in the time I have available before the combat rebalance)
