Thread: can someone please explain how this is possible?
if yer jsut starting as a armorcrafter yer resources probaly have low stats. yer looking at the right 2 OQ + SR.
by looking at ye rpost for colat and and kirrium , I would say that is a big part of the problem. becouse for armor its a 50 / 50 ratio so forhypitheticle example:
Kirrium steel say OQ 850 , SR 200. So since its 50% / 50% ration its actualy going to count the oq 850 = 425 and sr = 100 for a total of 525 . in this example it is the SR stat that kills the final result.
here is rulle fore myself that i follow. I always try to use materials with either oq or sr over900 + both over 900 is better. secondly i dont even try to make the item if 1 of those 2 stats is under 500.
you MIGHT be able to offset a low number with 1 of the other resources. the results still wont be the greatest but it might help a bit in the final production. here is a example:

Colat Iron OQ 585, SR 969 : notice the colat has a sr of 969 so 50% of 969 = 484.5 which will bring a bit of a boost to the kirriums SR.
dont get frustrated , hang in there and keep trying diferent resources. it took me a while to get the hang of it. and it does nto help having over 90% of the resources on gorath with bad stats over the past 3 months.
im still waiting for a decent neutronium for my advanced ubese.

I don't think you answered the posters question. I'm not a Master Armorsmith yet so I have no experience with comp, but what the poster is asking is: Why are the better resources giving less opportunity to experiment?
Bullit3 was able to fill 7 blocks in the base bar, but when he substitued his colat iron with some with much better stats he/she could only fill 6 blocks NOT 7. The other resources remained the same. So the better Colat worked against experiementing in the base resists.
-r2dtox- ill have to check the malle on the two diff. colats i was using. if your theory is right then they should mention that in the schematic breakdown-instead of resists only using 50% Overall Quality and 50% Shock Resist it should include something about Malleability affecting how much the resists can be experimented.
-i cannot believe that after spending all that time and money to get better colat iron it now appears that its worthless as far as making armor goes. i also have to say what a bummer that is-one part of being an armorsmith that was fun was finding high quality resources-maybe a vendor that happens to have some high quality old stuff or when an excellent new resource spawns its been fun to plug it in and see how much better my armor gets. it really takes a lot away from the profession if im going to be searching for some resource that sits just below the line that would give me an extra experiment point-resists should be based ONLY on the oq and sr and encumbrance and durability ONLY on the malle and unit toughness-just like it says in the schematic.
please someone explain if there is something im missing here-it would be a huge help.

I am a bit puzzled by the statement saying that you are not allowed to experiment more (or equal) with better resources. Did you get an Amazing succes during experimentation? Depending on how you have experimented, Amazing will sometimes fill out an additional box. Was the percentage for the base resist lower on the new segment compared to the old? Note that all percentages are rounded.
With respect to your armors not comparing to well with the competition, you dont say whether you layer the segments. All the best armors have triple layered segments.

On a side note,
The Kiirium Steel only is weighted as 28% of the final result of the "quality" of an advanced composite segment while the Colat Iron's statsaccount for55% of the segments total quality.
In my experience, it is better to experiment only one point at a time. That is, fill in one box in Effectiveness, run the experiment....fill in the next box and run the experiment...rinse repeat.
For some reason it seems that the system has different levels of "Great Success" that grant a different bonus. I.E. Sometimes when experimenting on meds I will get a great success and it will go up 6%. Then the next one will give 7%.
Spending only one point per experiment seems to minimize this. Plus it gives you more chances for amazing successes and in turn better stats.

Are you distributing all your exp points in one go and hit the 'Run Experiment' button?
Try toexperiment step by stepusingusing 2-4 points at a time and repeat until all points are used. You should then be able to distribute 8 on Quality and 2 on Durability. getting 19% Segments with your new Colat Iron.
