Hello everyone

This is my first post and I need some info from you guys. I'm not an armorsmith first off, I'm Master Rifleman, Master Marksman, Master Combat Medic. Since I seem to go through armor pretty quickly I decided to take an active part in getting it. I used up my last points to get novice artisan so I could find quality resources for armorsmiths to use on the armor they make me. The problem is I'm not sure what resources would work best for making armor. I'd hate to have to hunt all over creation to find them all and make comparisons based on that. If you could point me in the direction of what I should be looking for that would be a huge help. I've noticed there are different types of metal ,lets say, in every category. Is one better than another or can any of them be great depending on if im lucky enough to find a good source? Like if i found a certain metal with great quality for what it is would it be less desireable than a different one with lesser quality just based on the type? You understand what I'm getting at. It would be a huge help if someone could tell me the best choices of minerals to survey for, for making recon armor. Also if any smithsin the Chilastra galaxy want to help me out with this I'd gladly take my business to you for assembly.

Thanx for your time

here is my advice.

drop master marksman and pick up novice scout

armorsmiths can use a lot of hides. Look for high OQ and SR (with DR being a distant third)

most needed types of hides (only high quality please)

Naboo Bristley

Dant Wooly

Lok Leathery

we will also buy scaley, wooly or leathery regardless of what planet it is from if it has high OQ+SR (look for both stats 800-900+)

hope that helps

(note you can be a miner too, but demands are going to be a lot different depending on server and what has been spawning)

Also, another problem is that the armorsmith won't be able to make just one suit for you with your materials. We have to have factory runs of identical cores for some pieces that are difficult to NOT do in bulk. The best idea has already been mentioned. Pick up some scout, find good hides (our hardest resource to find) and trade them for a set of armor. Many AS would be willing to do that!

Excellent advice on the scout part. If you can spare another 14 skillpoints (for the branch that gives better creature harvesting), you can harvest hides quite efficiently. You could make a pretty penny doing this as well - but only from quality resources.

I support the NGE - NOT!

Thanx guys for your advice

It's funny too, when I picked up artisan I was debating for a while whether I should get that or scout. Eventually I decided on artisan instead figuring that minerals would be harder to find than hides and bones and therefore more valuable to a smith. Also I was under the impression that the metal in the armor contributed to more of the characteristics than the hides and cloths used. Butgetting hides would be alot easier considering I'm hunting most all the time and it wouldnt take much effort to grab a hide during the mission. So just so I have it straight, it's the quality of the resource thats most important and not the type right? An 800 quality leathery hide is the same as an 800 quality Bristley hide unless the schematic requires one or the other specifically right?

The are essentially the same, most of the armorsmiths schematics call specifically for leathery hide or scaley hide, etc. and in some cases, even more specific (Lokian Leathery Hide, Dantooine Wooley Hide, and Naboo Bristley Hide). I'm sure your server will be happy to hear a new person is out there willing to grab a few good hides for them!

Go with the hides.

This one ranger I buy from has hundreds of thousands of high quality dantooine wooly's carpeting his floor. I cry a little when I spend 1.25 million for 10,000 of them.

Im just starting to be able to sell suits of armor. But I plan on posting a sign near my vendor saying that I will trade armor suits for stacks of good hide.

Thanx again guys, youre being very helpful

Whats a good amount to sell to someone? 1000 units? 5k? 10k? I dont want to spend all my time out hunting specific creatures for the purpose of hides, so what would be an acceptable amount? Also what is the usual amount needed for a set of armor anyway?

Well, when I make my segments, I use a schematic with 1000 uses. That will use 5,000 scaley, wooly, or leathery depending on what segment I am using so anything amount less than that isn't very useful.

Those segments make 330 cores which use 16,400 naboo bristley, lokian leather, or dantooine wooly. So stacks that can handle that demand is also the minimum.

Of course any amount above that is okay also, but I would cosider those the minimums.

Thats cool so 20k of something would be a good haul to bring in.

Yes, 20K is a start, but try thinking a bit bigger.. like 100K stacks.

As long as the hides are good quality (OQ+SR=1700 or moreis a very good target), you won't find any problem trying to sell it.Since these high quality hides don't spawn all the time, when it does, everyone wants their hands on some.

Since the CU, it's very easy for Rangers to rake in huge ammounts of hides.

For instance, right now on my server, there's apretty decentspawn of Dant Wooly. Itold my Ranger contact yesterday that I wanted 300K units and he said he'll get it to me before Sunday.

Although300K might be too much for some smiths, 20K really doesn't go a long way when you start crafting in bulk.
