I was bored the other day and decided I would become an armorsmith to make some RIS Armor for myself.
So far, I have managed to obtaintwo of the four "Special" resources needed for the RIS armor creation.
But, I have hit a major wall here.
Last night I spent over 3 hours and traveled over 25000 meters (12.5K of it on foot) on Lok looking for Giant Dune Kimogila's, and found NOTHING. My character is a Ranger, I was "/areatracking:anaimals"looking everywhere every 500 meters, and I just saw niether hide nor hair of them.
I did manage to find 2, but theyt were at the "Kimo Town" POI. I was told that they do NOT drop the scales I need to complete the quest.
So, here is my questions for you out there....
- Do the Kimo's at the "Kimo Town" POI drop the scales I need to go forward? (Or, is this a rumor?)
- I read a post that these spawn more regularly out toward theImperial Outpost, and the volcano (Mountain) on Lok. Has anyone had any luck out that way finding them?
- This question maybe ..."sensitive". Where do you hunt to go find these? (If you don't want to post this information on this post, just send me a Private message. I understand, and thank you in advance for sharing you finds with me.)
- I would like to get my guild involved to help me with these, but where do I recommend they hunt for them?
I have a feeling that most are just going to tell me "that is just the way it is." My response to that would be:
This is just another waste of time quest that is not possible to complete like the "Nightsister Energy Lance" for the Pikeman Profession.
Why wouldyou (SOE) create such a cool thing for us to quest for and anger us with one componet that can not be gathered.
Sorry, I got off on a /rant there.
I look forward to your help and support.

1: The Giant Dune Kimo at Kimo town does drop GDK scales
2: Yes, I've hunted a lot down there, you'll find more there then at the kimo town, however don't expect to find a huge amount, I usually average a single spawn (that spawns 3), per hunt, it's a lucky day if I find two spawns
3: I go to the volcanoe on lok, and the area north of it, then the area west of it. Those are where I have found the most.
4: The southern area of lok generally is the place to look. A ranger will help a lot, and expect to spend a lot of time, and don't expect to find them very fast. GDK hunting is probably the least rewarding hunting experience, as it very rarely procures results. Which keeps RIS veyr rare.

if you are high damage enough it is easier to camp kimo town with the fast 15 min spawn.
draw a line at the imp outpost. gdk will spawn anywhere south of it. i have found gdks at many places. the volcano is a good spawn spot to start.

I've seen a few north of Imp outpost, but that's a good general rule.
Last week I even found a GDK spawn right in the middle of the Canyon Corsair POI.

I hunted and killed 14 GDK's over 2 days last week and did not loot one scale. However as I said, I did find them. And the suggested areas seem to be correct in my experience. The area between the Imp Outpost and the Volcano is usually hot, especially the flat plains area before you get to the river.

The most important thing to remember when you find a spawn is to camp it. once you kill the one you find... wait and another one will spawn in the same spot. The most respawns i have gotten is 9 but not sure if that is the most. i have killed prob close to 100 and have yet to loot a single hide.....I am very unlucky!!!!!!!(even when the drops were crazy i never looted one!!!!)
Good luck

When I was a master ranger/rifleman, I tried to use area track also. I actually had better luck "tabing" to all the red targets i saw while on my bike. I found it to be faster...
until the pub a month or 2 ago, 100 and no loot was not unheard of. It took me 6 months to get enough for 1 suit. I had gotten 8 scales on gdk #3 and 8 more on #66. Mind you, this was before I became a melee tank and could take one out solo in about 5 minutes. I didn't get my 3rd drop until well into the high 200 or low 300 kill range.
Then after krayts started dropping at a stupid rate, so did the gdks, people getting scales 1 in 10 kills. price has dropped considerably and now its no longer a rare item.
It sounds like the spawn has been fixed, if thats the case.. COOL.

/Nalanioff... brother on
Hellow Armorsmithies. Im presently a Master Creature Handler / Pikeman.
To find GDK's, head to the southern portion of lok. Mount Chaleot *spelling* and that area around it.... head west to the canyon corsair camp. I have killed well into the 1000 mark of GDK's in this area (Tucumcari, Wanderhome Server).
I find that using a 60% kinetic, light armor b.e. gurreck makes for one helluva tank. In fact, it takes me roughly 3minutes to kill a Giant Dune Kimogila using my Long Vibro Axe. This is do to the fact that one can stand 22m behind your tank and not get intimidated/or plauge striked by the lizzard
I will still maintain that opinion that a flame thrower is best weapon of choice against these critters as the dot bypasses all their defenses while stacking 4 flame dots.
Hope that helps..
