I havnt been able to get a straight answer on sockets.

from what Ive heard, sockets appear randomly on clothing at domestic arts III(Im novice tailor). Just tonite I made several shorts for entertainers and they came out socketed (names were yellow).

Now, from what I have been told, things that go into those sockets are randomly dropped by mobs, and VERY rarely.

there is diffrent ideas upon how one acceses these dropped items. One is you drag it onto the clothing that is socketed, the other is it happens in the creation of the clothing.

Also, is there no way we tailors can make the socket items too? or an armorsmith perhaps?

Or is this a way that the devs are adding phat loot?

Answers to these and an explination of how they work will be appreciated. If Im way off please tell me.

Im stumpered.

Sockets appear randomly on tailored items. Skill-enhancing stones are dropped as loot. Stones are dragged onto the completed, socketed item to add their effects to the item. (When you find a stone, or some call them eggs, it will have its skill mods listed.)

What factor determines if a piece of clothing is capable of sockets. I am a Novice Tailor and none of my clothes or items from the Elite profession has sockets, but the items I make from the Artisan line does. I am also a Master Artisan. Does it have something to do with skill, luck, or level of training?

Thanks,

you need to go up the tailoring line to get sockets. The Clothing assembly skill affects tailor items and whether they have sockets.

You do NOT need tailoring to get sockets

I was making 4 socket items before i was even master artisan

If you make items from the dom arts line it's a completely different story. Different skill tree so it uses different skill. If you make items in the tailoring tree you need to get the tailoring skills to make sockets.

Well, here's the thing. I am not a Master Artisan but I'm at the top of the tree on the Novice Artisan in Domestic Arts (DA IV). I do not have Novice Tailor, however, I can make clothing that has sockets. The amount of sockets seem to vary between 3-4 sockets on a particular piece of clothing. Is there a way to tell how many sockets I have prior to naming the item?

Also, can someone explain what goes into the sockets. I believe it's gems and the gems can have skill modifiers. Are these gems that you can survey for? How can you tell what qualities the gem will bestow on the clothing? (Especially in the case of wookiee clothing.) Does the type of enhancement show up when you examine the gem stones qualities?

I'm obviously in need of Sockets 101.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, it should list them on the same screen that says "This item was a great sucess" or whatever...

Artisan clothing is socketed because the applicable bonus goes up automatically as you advance in Domestic Arts. The equivilent bonus for Tailors is in a separate branch of the skill tree, so Tailor clothing doesn't get sockets until you advance in that branch (named, confusingly, Tailoring).

Skill enhancers go in clothing slots. You can usually find a few on the bazaar to play with. They drop from NPCs. I've got one that adds to clothing assembly, but it's bugged - it adds nothing, but it subtracts a point when I remove the clothing item holding it. Only the ones that look like rolls of tape work with clothing. The ones that look like bone armor segments are apparently for armor, and as far as I know socketed armor isn't in the game yet.

Can someone easily explain sockets? Why does my standard backback have 4 sockets on it? What can I do with these?

Thanks.
