I got a request to make some a few nights ago. Not too tough, considering the only addition to a blast layer over a kinetic layer is a small amount of low-grade ore. Customer only wanted one set though, and it's not worth the factory time / effort for one suit.
I did some expreimeting and end up with the same base stats as kineitc armor. May just go that route from now on.

The best comp has a base in the low 70s and everything else to lower the HAM, especially the mid. Even a modest slice will usually beat 80%. If you can't hit that 71-72% mark, then the 80/80/80 stuff starts to make sense. Nothing beats a nice 90% suit with moderate HAM costs. Remeber that a 90% suit is half the damage of an 80% suit, while a 70% suit is only 1.5x the damage of an 80% suit. So the risk to pay off ratio is in the favor starting at 70ish% base. Even a light weight, 70ish% base suit is excellent where as an 80% accross the board suit that is very heavy is protective, but otherwise not attractive.
80/80 armor definately is not the BEST composite armor out there. It is however the BEST for people who hunt high end mobs and dont have the time/patience/money to guarantee the slices they want. Any suit that has 80% to the 2+ major damage types in PvE is well worth it simply for the fact that you can pull a droid, pull a new set out of a crate and go without worrying about trying to find a smuggler. In other words, its the lazy mans armor.
The point of this post is to get input into layering for 80/80 not to discuss the merits of 80/80. I like the idea of Kinetic/Stun/Blast armor marketed towards the NS hunters. Guess it's time to play around and see what's what ![]()

If you're talking about adding a blast layer, then I say yeah. If you mean replacing kinetic with blast, I'd say no.
Encumbrance sliced 80% kinetic is a lot better than most people give it credit for. When I had a TKM / master pistoleer / rogue alt, I could solo groups of NIghtsisters (like two protectors and three spell weavers) with encumbrance sliced 80% kinetic comp, as long as the elders stayed out of the fight. Just keep a PSG on the toolbar in case one of them pulls out a stun bat and you're as good as gold.
