Ah, I was afraid I was going to get that answer. So it sounds like there is no way for me to refit any kind of armor and end up with a black piece.

nope, however there's the chance that we may get color kits in the future, incredibly slim chance but we can always dream.

I have various pieces of pre-CU refittable armor that I want to put AA's into, then refit them to free up sockets (assuming it still works that way). Most of it is comp armor. Now that I apparently can't set the color of my comp armor anymore, I am wondering if I take a piece of already-black pre-CU comp armor and refit it as, say, ubese, will the resulting ubese be black as well, or will it revert to some default ubese color? Unfortunately this would be too expensive for me to experiment with, since I will have already added AA's to it before I refit, and I'd hate to end up with some weird color that doesn't match the rest of my clothing.

No, it defaults to a basic color... comp (white) Chitin (sickly brown), Bone (um... boneish), Padded (Blue), Ubese (tan), Tantel (tan)

When I put AA into a pre-cu armor I could not refit it. However if I already had AA put in before cu I could refit.

Hmm, that is good to know, Bermag. Good thing I read your post before I attempted it.

it worked for me, are you sure you hadnt allready refitted it??

i tested it with a precu refittable arm piece. Dumped an aa in and refitted it, it retained the sockets and the skill tape

Ah, so it does work after all, at least for some people. Hmm, I'd like to hear from anybody else who had experience with this either way.

My understanding (and what I was planning to do) was that if I take a pair of 4-socket pre-CU comp gloves, add 4 AA's to it (assuming for the sake of argument that they are all single-skill AA's), and then refit it, the skill mods get preserved and it frees up 3 (not 4) new sockets. The preexisting skill mods all apparently get jammed into the 4th socket during the refit. Now, I can add two more AA's to reach the maximum of 6 (the last socket being unusable). The end result: a pair of refitted gloves that have 6 sockets filled, and the 7th remaining empty, for a total of 6 skill mods. If I had used multi-skill AA's, then the six highest-stat skills from the whole lot would stick. Is my understanding correct?

i think someone mentioned that this had been fixed and is no longer possible. i tested it with a 4 sock arm piece and it ended up having 3 sockets, but then again i only put a 1 mod tape on it so i dunno if the socket carried over or if it reset to three.

when you refit old armor it defaults to 3 sockets, regardless of AA's. I refitted tons of armor post CU to get my vendors stocked and running, and each one went from 4 to 3 sockets, so no your skill mods are not holding up that 4th socket.

Okay, forget about what I said about the 4th socket... that was just semantics--my way of verbalizing an abstract process. When you refit armor and it converts to 3 sockets, all the preexisting skill mods do get preserved in the refit armor piece, no matter how many sockets they had used up pre-refit, right? In other words, no matter how manyskillmods you had in a pre-refit armor piece, once you refit it you will end up with 3 empty sockets, along with all the prexisting mods, is that correct? Or has this indeed been fixed recently?
