I'm currently a Novice armorsmith and I'm within a thousand XP of being able to learn a new skill.
I'm just looking for advice really, which new skill should i go for ?
Appearance / Layers / Personal shields / experimentation
I know those aren't the exact titles but I'm sure you all know what I mean. I'm thinking Layers or experimantation to help me make better the stuff I can do. but I'm interested in opinions.
I'm not in a particular hurry to level up, I want to enjoy the game not just grind up, but I'd like to make a few quid along the way.
Just out of interest if i go for the shield option will i be able to make one or will i have to wait for the next level. And can anyone wear one (meaning me) ?
Thanks for any comments.

Well, if you're trying to grind to master, head up to Personal Armor 3 so you can start making ubese shirts. Good xp for relatively few resources.
If you want to make the best basic armor you can, you should head up the technique tree. That's where your experimentation and customization points are.
Save the layer and PSG trees for last. As a new smith, you probably don't want to touch these.
If you have the resources, I'd suggest grinding up to 3000 AS so you can make ubese shirts to grind to 3004. Then it's your choice. Grind the rest of the way to master, or take your time and try to make some money selling low level armor (won't be easy, though).

Oh, and you'll need Deflectors 2 to actually be able to make a PSG. Plus they require a couple master artisan components.
Yes, anyone can wear a PSG.
