Thread: Anyone else use Heat layers in Composite?

I have found that heat layers provide extremely low ham and great base on composite.

Surprisingly, I haven't seen many other AS using heat layers.

Does anyone else do this? Any reason not to do it?

I used our server best aluminum in the non-ferrous slot, and came out with some insane HAM.

The crate of helms linked in my signature... The HAM is way better than any energy or kinetic comp I've ever crafted.

Note the mind encumb I have hit before, but the health/action especially are insanely low.

Blast I can get pretty low on HAM too, but not quite as low.

I guess it all depends on your server spawns of materials, but we have some really nice aluminum (Ibin) that I used, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was something a bit better I could've used in the same resource slot.

If anything, just letting bloodfinians know that heat layers make some sweet composite.

Wow, what oq/sr? Never seen 72% base

First the Nazis came for the Communists, I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. After that they came for the Trade Unionists, I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. And then they came for me, but there was no one left to speak.

Sevarhin made some 80kin/80ele/80energy/10stun 72 base on Ahazi

All resources used were server best all around resources. Probably could've hit 73% base with the better base hide/fiberplast. (but then ham would have suffered)

The reason the heat layers came out so well on ham was because the resources used all had awesome mal and oq in the layers. By awesome I mean 850+ mal and 900+ oq on the layers. Final ham on layers was 9/9/9 I believe.

It's pretty easy to hit 72% base with the resources that've spawned recently on bloodfin. We have some insanely nice intrusive ore.

if high base is your only goal than this is probably a good idea. This can be done with all kinds of different layers on different servers. It just depends on what kind of resources are available. I assume that your layers were 4% base, which is attainable with any other kind of layer. If you could somehow craft a layer above 4% base than it would be something to consider.

For all feasible purposes, I would never use heat layers. Using even one heat layer would mean that I could not use the other layers needed to make 80/80/80 sets of blast/kinetic/electricty or energy/kinetic/electricity (both of those suits with the remaining layer being stun). It also wouldn't be feasible for triple stun layered PvP armor, as the name says, you need 3 stun layers. There's no need to have heat in the special protection. The only logic could be that using these heat layers would get you a much higher base than using other layers, and then you would have a better chance of getting the protectiosn that really mattered sliced up to a higher percentage. I really don't see how you could wear armor without at least one stun layer.

For those who demand resists of over 85% on the common damage types, heat, cold, or electric layering is the way to go. Personally, I've had an excess of really good resources to make cold-layered 72% base composite, which has found some popularity among the effectiveness slicers.

If you hunt Nightsisters, it's almost the only way to go, unless you go with something like a 22 stun / 71 base build to deal with those nasty stun batons.

But yeah, on Bloodfin, heat layering is easily doable and really nice. I just prefer cold because it takes fractionally less polymer (which has become a golden resource as of late).

My goal was really low encumbrance while maintaining a 72 or better base.

I achieved that goal, and did better than I expected on the encumbrance.

The encumbrance is 10-15 points lower in each stat than my energy, kinetic, or blast composite.

I was thinking cold would be the way to go, as well. Is the encumbrance on the cold layered comp as good as the heat... for example the helms links in my sig? I just need some of the ore and I can mess around with the cold layers.

I wear armor without stun all the time when hunting... I just put on a PSG whenever I see a stun baton coming my way.

I don't see the point in one stun layer, nor do I have the resources left to make a lot of good stun layers.

The goal was more or less hitting a really low encumbrance with the 72 base, with something in the special that didn't matter as much as kinetic or energy.

With heat in the special, all the other resists aside from heat and elec can get up to 90 base with a 25% slice.

Having90 kineticinstead of 80for example, is beneficial to NS hunters that face kinetic damage a lot.

The 90% base pieces of this armor would have heat and electric in the special, of which NS only use electric sometimes, which is always in the special. Ultimately 50% more protection over the base protections compared to if they were at 80 in the special.

I've never seen anything 100% for certain when it comes to whether or not special protections get bonuses. In the case that they do not... you're looking at 10% damage coming through instead of 20%. That's a whole different thread, though.

The encumberance with cold is pretty good, probably pretty similar to what you've got if I (a) pushed the experimentation and (b) experimented for HAM on the final construction.

Since most of the folks who use my CryoComposite use it for Nightsister hunting as a four-piece suit, encumberance is almost a total non-issue for them. Getting something like 41-42K condition is more appealing.

HAM-wise, however, looks like I'd get something aroudn 55/50/284 on a helmet, so yeah, that's pretty close.

Something very similar is possible with cold layers on ahazi - haven't fiddled with it in a month or two though.
