Hi, I'm an avid Image Designer, and as you may know, one of the more common requests I get is to stat migrate people to fit into their snazzy new set of armor so they can fit into it without having to have buffs.

Now, I understand that for really high encumbrance armor, people will not be able to wear it without buffs, regardless of how much they migrate because they simply will not have enough character points.

however, I want to make sure I understand encumbrance and the effect they have on stats. How I understand it (from reading the armorsmith FAQ),most armor will have encumbrance rates under health, action and mind. These rates do not equate into encumbering the aforesaid stat, but will encumber the secondary stats under those main HAM stats. So, if I have a set of armor that has a Health 123 Action 120 and mind encumbrance of 125 I will need my secondary stats of strength and constitution to be at least 123, my secondary stats of quickness and stamina to be at least 120 and my focus and willpower to be at least 125 before I can fit into the armor (just a random number example here!). Is this the way it works?

I also wanted to ask, will this encumbrance rate effect the primary stats as well? For multiple pieces of armor, do these encumbrance numbers add together (so I have a helmet with a mind encumbrance of 15 and a bracer witha mind encumbrance of 5, does this mean my encumbrance of my secondary mind stats of focus and willpower will be a total of 20?)?

I thank you for your help and understanding with this, migrating people to fit into armor has caused me endless headaches due to my not understanding encumbrance and I am working on a FAQ for IDs stat migrating people specifically for armor to spare us the annoyance of having to migrate people multiple times because we just don't get encumbrance rates!

I'm not an armorsmith but I can tell you you've got it right. Encumberance temporarily reduces the SECONDARY stat corresponding to the Health, Action, or Mind listed. It has no direct effect on the primary three, but obviously lower secondaries is gonna hurt over time. So if you have 500 willpower and put on a composite helmet with 250 mind encumberance, your Mind pool will regenerate only half as quickly due to the fact that you now effectively have only 250 willpower.

Encumbrance does not directly affect primary stats, though you will notice changes in the cost of specials and the regen of the stat after using such while wearing the items.
On the second point, the encumbrances of all items of armour worn stack. So yes, in the example you use your secondary stats would need to exceed 20 points each .

Hope this helps

close, but on the right track, you'd need each substat one point above the encumbrance (124/121/126). and yes they add up.

A note about secondaries to clarify further - the first one listed (eg, focus for mind)governs how much of the primary is exhausted from using a special move (the ham cost of the weapon is the other determining factor) and the second secondary (eq, willpower for mind) determines how fast the primary regenerates. Your customers may want to stagger their secondaries to maximize one of these relative to the other. Special move costs are zero if a secondary stat is 1500 or higher.

As said above, encumbrance is cumulative if you have multiple pieces of armor equipped, and your secondaries need to be equal to 1 greater than the total encumbrance of what you want to equip to be able to equip it. Wounds are not factored into this equation.
