Armor is taking a hit, but the Armorsmiths arent. Just because armor goes down in effectivness, doesnt mean that people will stop buying armor. I actually think that sales will go up, as armor decays faster the more damage that goes through. A 90% set of composite will decay much slower than a 50% set.

Either way, its a moot point since I dont think the devs have even started talking about what they are going to do with armor. We know what they plan on doing with weapons, and special attacks, but they have yet to report any kind of thought as to armor. And although they keep us in the dark about certain things, Im sure they are going to want to get a general consensus before a huge nerf to armor.

As for a time table... The publish going Live on Tues is 9. The combat revamp is now slated for 11. The least amount of time between publishes (not counting the .1 and .2 they now have for halveses) is 1 month but that is highly unlikely. All the publishes this year have been about 1.5 months or so. The most amount of time we might have between 10 and 11 (I figure 10 is probably an easier publish than 9 and so might actually be stated in the coding phase) is 2 months if you look at when publish 8 hit and when publish 9 will hit. In an advent, we'll start hearing real numbers and real data (not just rumor, innuendo, and speculation) -after- publish 10, probably a few weeks after publish 10.2, actually. Look at the time table progression of Pubish 9 in relation to publish 8 as a guide for when it might come out and trickle information.

Would I make armor now? heck yeah! There is a lot of time this summer and people will need armor. I can continue to rise to one of the best armorsmiths on Kett and that reputation will hold with me when pub 11 comes around and I have to modify how I make armor.

How so? Are other classes going to be able to make armor or something? Best armor before CB = best armor after CB.

How so?

Well, as I understand it, the armor will be capped as far as resists, but will still have the same encumberance, so the days of 500k Composite suits are numbered. And, there's no telling how they'll cap those resists for each armor type. So, maybe bone armor will be more effective for certain professions or situations than Ubese or Padded. Also, the jedi (who are now the ones paying very extravagently for Comp) will now have robes that offer protection, which AS will have nothing to do with. And even now, buffs are half the reason folks can take part in combat/content (I.E. the vette or DWB) because of the regen rate. That will change as well. And, there are folks I see who prefer not to wear armor at all, and they are of the highest combat classes.

In any case, I am just speculating...and it's good advice no matter what the outcome. Make your cash now. There's really no telling right now how this will end up, so, with that in mind, getting a good jump on the economics of running an AS shop together now, will help if the effects are negetive.
