Hello Fellow Armorsmiths,
This is my plead with you to band together with me to send a message to The development team That we as a group would like changes to the AS profession to Allow the assembly of Armor without Factory Components. This would benifit both the AS trade, And the amount of Structures in a galaxy. Lets think about this for a moment what is in place currently. To be a self sufficient armorsmith you need, Survey 4(berylius copper, high end materials), Tailor (armor padding, synthetic cloth), novice scout( hides), Some sort of fighting profession(protection, getting hides), At least one factory, at least one harvester(Architect), several hundred Credits just to vist the multiple planets required to make different armor components(naboo fiberplast, Yavin wood, Lok Leather, corellian fiberplast) this is the bare minimum you would need. Ok sure you can buy most of these materials, However, you must shop in 40 different places, just to find a Single item such as Naboo fiberplast, only to find it has a poor rating and will only give you a poor armor quality that no one will buy except on the Bazaar because they are too new to understand the significance of the armor ratings. (new Armorsmiths make armor of lesser quality than that dropped by NPC's).
Now with all that Hassle, add the fact that all armor above that made by an artisan requires at least onecomponent from a factory crate. Add to this the fact that you Cannot add your Armor enhancements directly to the armor but to the Armor Segment(from a factory crate) which means to make a full suit of armor using the same type of armor segment you need 17 (number may be wrong but is close)armor enhancements with the same serial number, sure one can argue that you can use multiple items with serial numbers but then you need a heck of alot more (9 extra segments for a full set of Composite armor)
Here is what I would like to see,
Remove the requirement of the Factory from the equation completely.
This one act would free the armorsmith to make a wide variety of different armor making it a more flexible profession, Even Today, the few armor Smiths that produce Medevil Armor would not use factory produced parts to create an armor.
Argument,
this would hurt the Architect profession. Sure but they have, houses, furniture, harvesters, Municiple buildings, etc.. etc..
and though I have not completed the architect tree, i know they are not required to have 10 house segements from a Factory crate, why should the AS suffer that fate when the designers of the Buildings arent required to?
By Way of post you can show your support, or disagreement.
Thanks..

umm... w/o factories armor would be almost non existant b/c i dont know many people willing to sit there hand making hundreds of suits. This is not a very well thought out argument i'd say. Maybe if you had an alternative to factories or something, but the idea of removing factories is just not very inspired.

I would have to agree Factories are essentual. Im a master Architect too and I use 4 structure factories for all the sub-components that are needed for the advanced architect items, such as HMH Guild halls...you cant be very far in arch if you think there are no items that need sub-componets from factory crates...

I see this is your second post, are you new to the forums, or just new to swg?
let me add a comment or two

let me respond to those two things
1. I would never never never be a self sufficiant AS, it would be a pain, I would never have time to make armor, I would be comstantly running to planets etc. I am self sufficient in that I have the money to afford me to pay others to do all the things on your list aside from the factory part
2. this is your second post. If this doesnt sound like a stupid idea go to your galaxies trade forum. Make a post titles "buying armorsmith resources" and post what you want and what you are willing to pay. You will get offers if you pay enough. So instead of running all over the galaxy looking in empty vendors, you have people bidding over the chance to deliver it to your door saving you time and energy
hope that helps

I'd like it if you could have upgradeable factories, like, place a factory deed on top of one you already have and it essentially becomes a double factory, it can produce 2 items simultaneously, or it can cut construction time for one item in half. Let this be done up to say, a 5th level Super-factory. It would certainly save some physical space, and would greatly decrease the time I need to start up a factory run if the interface was convenient.

What are you smoking??? Because you might as well share....
Seriously the only time I dont make factory runs is when I have a super heavy demand like the Day wookiee armor went live...
Even then I still had to produce the Segments in a factory...
You may want to go back and look at your schematics again and re read most of them... only 2 armors say similar on the segments
thats Mabari and Chitin (Not Wookiee Ceremonial)
the Rest say IDENTICAL (Factory) Segments....
Factories are here to stay!!!

Factories save me from burning out. Leave them alone. Only thing I would change, and I'm sure I would have agreement across all crafting boards, is resource stacking. If resources stacked to 1 million it would solve the database problem and storage problem we all experience. Same thing with crate stacking. Crates should stack to at least 100. Forget realism. I would rather have my sanity.

What about subcomponents stacking to 1000? Ugh, gets frustrating dealing with so many cases of layers doing a triple layered segment run.

I agree. Instead of having 20 crates of 50 units, just increase the capacity per crate. Easier on the crafters, and easier on the DB.

He's not saying not to use factories to make armor, but to remove the requirement of factory components (ie, segments) for use in the armor. He'd rather use mismatched armor segs.
Why he wants to do this? I have no idea. Maybe to make it easier to use looted components.
With only two posts, he's either new to the game, the profession, or the forums. Given time, he'll understand the importance of needing factories even to run the segments.
I agree with the stacking of components, subs, and resources. The lack of this limits the armor an armorsmith can make since they can't keep every resource in stock. And since most people prefer composite and ubese, 90% of our profession is wasted and those are the main armors you see people wearing.

omg i wish resources stacked to a million... and if syn cloth/reinforced/segs/layers stacked to 1000 in one crate i would have ... 9 items to work with when filling factories (6 resources of comp, segs, fiber, syn cloth) omg that would be so nice...
