I used to be a smuggler before dropping it in favour of something more useful in combat. Post-CU I repecced to Suggler again to see what it's like now and played with some slicing.

After this lovely CU the level of slice you can do is dependent on how good the kit you are slicing is. The better the kit the WORSE teh slice. So if everyone wears sliced armour they can buy second rate armour and get better slices, making it just about as good as good armour with a lower slice. I haven't checked teh numbers on a large scale and guess that good armour with a low slice will still be better than mediocre armour with a good slice.

BUT... with all the flak and problems flyning our way (i.e. towards AS's) and teh extra issues now with CU isn't this just another kick in the genitals for us as we try to make teh best we can?

that is good for me, because I tend to make mediocre armor.

No.

Can you imagine how cool the original combat system would've been if they put the same amount of work and effort into it as they did the CU?

Aye armor definately makes a difference now. Dindnt much in TC. But right now it can make alot of difference. For example I was out hunting with some guild mates on my combat toon who's a level 59. There were 3 of us. the other two at level 80. And we were taking on level 79+ creatures. Now yes there was group mitigated damage.... And the armor definately made a difference for me. Sure critters were still taking a decent chunk otu of me but the armor was blocking almost as much as I was taking.

My point wasn't whetehr it's worth making or wearing full stop, my point was that with worse slices the betterthe armour gets doesn't that remove a chunk of teh incentive to make GREAT kit rather than standard kit?

No it seems that the entire armor crafting process has turned generic. it all comes out so close to the same after a slice it really doesnt matter.
