Thread: Armorsmith Question about Layers...
- Does using the same type of layer multiple times in a segment increase the protection?
- Like if I use 4 Identical Energy Layers, will my protection on the segment be greater than say a segment made with just one Energy Layer?
- So more or less, do the protections stack in the final stats that a segment has?
Yes, each layer adds exponential resists to the armor. so 2 is better than 1, 3 better and so on. But be careful, because layers have 2 side effects. 1 effect is that hinderances are increased. Based upon testing, a master bh is able to get rid of most hinderances as long as armor is 6k or less on kin, but over 6k they have some movement as well as accuracy issues.
The second side effect is, that when you use a layer, it drops something else. IE, when you use simple energy layers, it will drop the kin resists on the armor. Primus layers raise kin and energy, but lower the elementatl resists, etc.

Ty for your quick response. I was messing with my cores, segments and layers last night, and if I were to fully layer a suit, my math says it takes 132 layers lol. When breaking down costs to do a suit of armor, and this was purely by my personal costs, I was looking at an unlayered suit costing 175,000 credits, and this was including what I have to resource deed out.
With that being said...I did the cost on layers, and i was looking at roughly 500-600k credits, just for the layering lol. At first glance, it didnt seem right that the layers were close to 3x more expensive than the actual suit. So I had to come here and ask. But, it turns out that it is the truth. Good lord lol.
Which is exactly why I dont make layered suits for the general public. ![]()
Oh and layers dont add protection, they merely shift the inherent protection of the armor around. If youre concerned about kin and energy then primus is really the only way to go... no yinyang

omg.
another Smuggler/AS.
/cry
i thought i was alone in the universe
Actually layers do in fact add resists mate. Ive found that between my primus and non layered the armors dont change a whole lot on the elemental resists. For instance, primus layers will take my kin and energy to around 6k on battle, and the other lowers by around 150 points to 5387. With non layered its 5518. So, allthough it does move around some, it also adds some to it as well. In addition, you are right about the hinderances to a point. Hinderances as the armor increases in value closer to 6k does increase in hinderance. The primus layered stuff had a 10% increase to hinderances over the regular non layered suits.

oh, and layers dont affect hinderances. as i mentioned above, they just shift your protection values around, so say you layer up a 6k suit of battle armor.... you use 12 +83 kinetic layers... these kick your kinetic to 7000 and lower you energy to 5000... your hinderances will still be 40/40/40 across the board....
BUT if you slice this suit your hinderances will change based upon the preslice values... if you get 7% slice your 7k kinetic goes to 7500 and thus your movement penalty goes through the roof... probably something like 45-50%
energy postslice ends up 5350 so youll have a small increase on your RoF hinderance. Thats why its best to use primus... 6500x1.07~7k post slice resists. so probably 5-10% global hinderance raised. /shrug
as soon as slicing is fixed ill get some hard data out on max layered suits after slice, should be interesting
