Been looking around the boards for a thread about how to make the kinetic/energy (80%) suits and tried a few experimentations on getting them but thought id see if anyone out here can help me in how to make them. Thanks in advance to any assistance you can give me on this subject

It kinda all depends on your resources. I can hit 80/80/80 kin/ene/ele composite by using 2x4%base/5%energy and 1x4%base/9%kinetic layers.

4/9 Kinetic ... are you a 12pt MAS? est ive gotten is 4/7 Kin .. although i am a 10pt MAS ... i really need to get me some armor exp skill tapes ...

The resources for energy layers are better than those for kinetic on Shadowfire (we've never had an awesome amor gem spawn). So I'm using two 4% base / 5% energy layers and one 4% base / 10% kinetic layer to do hit 80% energy/kinetic/electricity / 70% base.

I am a 12pt smith, but I could hit this when I was a 10 pointer. I can hit 97% on my Kinetic layers, just takes a set of amazing successes. The only difference now is that I have a couple extra points to throw into ham.

resources first, skill tapes later. its all in the numbers

just stay on top of spawns (try to get a mining contract with someone) and look for old stuff whenever possible and youre golden

Im a fairly new master as well. I read many articles on how to make such an such an armor type. Although many things I read helped greatly, I never fully understood the process behind what I was doin...until I read this post. Unfortunately I don't remember who wrote this, but all credit definately goes to him and not me. This is actually based on the new Wookiee Hunter Armor.

I dunno if this should be a sticky because it definately takes away from the "Mystique" of the master armorsmith and all that it entails. It definately comes down to patience, perserverence and understanding. Lol don't forget the good Colat Iron!

wanna do your layers right? this should help:
first things first make a schematic for an UNLAYERED segment. max out base and put the rest into special protect. then head to the factory and run off 2 of those segments
now build a bracer using those segmetns. again max out base but put whatevers left into durability. now take note of the bracers stats. mine was 66% kin 52% base.
here is where math comes in.
for 80% kin id need 14% more from my layers. for this set i also wanted to reach 80% energy, for which i would need 28% more (52%base + 28% energy = 80%). if i used layers with 3% base, it would raise the base by 9% (3x3), and therefore also raise the kin and ene by 9% (so now were at 75% kin 61% base).
now all i need is 5% more kinetic and 19% more energy. to cover the kinetic, one layer will have 5% kin resist (i did 6% just to be safe) and the other two layers will have 10% energy each.
now make schematics for a 3%base/6%kin layer and a 3%base/10%ene layer. run to the factories and make 3 kin layers and 6 energy layers. use 1xkin and 2xene layers in the creation of your segment, we will have just enough layers to create two segments inthe factory. now run back to the fac's a final time to load your new layered segment schematic. take the two created segments and craft another bracer.
my results were: 80%kinetic/80%energy with 61% base.
so the take-home message is, see what your stats are on a peice of armor using unlayered segments. from there you can see exactly how much resistance your layers need to provide to you. this can save you from over-doing it in terms of kin resistances, and it lets you do nifty things like 80/80 or super low HAM.
naturally, your results will vary depending on your resources, but the experimental values should be able to be reached by any smith (im 11pts and i was able to do this and still have some points left over to reduce HAM).

hermi_odle said it best when he pointed out that this is only temporary. none of us use electrical layers in comp, after some good resources are aqquired well be able to hit 80% kin with just some minor experimentation on the segments, and our layers can be used on more useful things like stun and energy.

well thats it for me, i hope this helps even just one smith get some better results on their armor
im off to work now, but ill be back to check this post when im back to answer any questions.
