ive seen a lot of questions on this so heres my best attempt at giving a clear answer

this is common sense to some but others have yet to learn it, so thats who this guide is for. this is by no means an end-all to Hunter layering, this is just to get people on the right track.

PS its early and im tired so youll have to excuse my spelling mistakes hehe

wanna do your layers right? this should help:

first things first make a schematic for an UNLAYERED segment. max out base and put the rest into special protect. then head to the factory and run off 2 of those segments

now build a bracer using those segmetns. again max out base but put whatevers left into durability. now take note of the bracers stats. mine was 66% kin 52% base.

here is where math comes in.

for 80% kin id need 14% more from my layers. for this set i also wanted to reach 80% energy, for which i would need 28% more (52%base + 28% energy = 80%). if i used layers with 3% base, it wouldraise the baseby 9% (3x3), and therefore also raise the kin and ene by 9% (so now were at 75% kin 61% base).

now all i need is 5% more kinetic and 19% more energy. to cover the kinetic, one layer will have 5% kin resist (i did 6% just to be safe) and the other two layers will have 10% energy each.

now make schematics for a 3%base/6%kin layer and a 3%base/10%ene layer. run to the factories and make 3 kin layers and 6 energy layers. use 1xkin and 2xene layers in the creation of your segment,we will havejust enough layers to create two segments inthe factory.now run back to the fac's a final time to load your new layered segment schematic. take the two created segments and craft another bracer.

my results were: 80%kinetic/80%energy with 61% base.

so the take-home message is, see what your stats are on a peice of armor using unlayered segments. from there you can see exactly how much resistance your layers need to provide to you. this can save you from over-doing it in terms of kin resistances, and it lets you do nifty things like 80/80 or super low HAM.

naturally, your results will vary depending on your resources, but the experimental values should be able to be reached by any smith (im 11pts and i was able to do this and still have some points left over to reduce HAM).

hermi_odle said it best when he pointed out that this is only temporary. none of us use electrical layers in comp, after some good resources are aqquired well be able to hit 80% kin with just some minor experimentation on the segments, and our layers can be used on more useful things like stun and energy.

well thats it for me, i hope this helps even just one smith get some better results on their armor

im off to work now, but ill be back to check this post when im back to answer any questions.

GL and get craftin!

I think this might have helped me out! though I come from weaponsmithing, and I'm getting the idea that next to master artisan, Master weaponsmith is the next easiest crafting prof :/

im a 10 pointer and my first set of kash hunting armor i got 80/62. with a few left over for ham reduction on segments and condition boost on final armor. i love to craft this stuff!!!!! the peeps on my server love it!!!! and i cant fill orders fast enough

i know what you mean! i know composite inside and out, so this a fun new challange that pumps out some good armor! (funner then trying to make the best mabari set lol)

Man, That explained A LOT for me dude

Thanks a lot, I can now manage to get half decent comp without, as you say 'over-doing' it. I dont really know why I didnt think of it tbh, dead simple really.

Thanks again

So how did you get 66% kinetic in with 52% base without using layers???

thats just what my resources allowed. the kin was higher than the base because it is the special protection of the armor (similar to elec being special protect of comp). when making the segments i maxed base, and put any leftover points into Special Resist, which is what raised the kin to 66% in the final combine.

btw i find that most wooks on my server prefer the extra condition granted by experimenting special resist on final combine rather than using hte leftoverpoitns on HAM, especially on the chest peice. just something to bring up to your clients when working out armor details

ahh, now I understand my confusion, I mistakenly thought you were talking about composite armor and none of your math added up to me, I guess I should have stopped to read the title.

heh no worries. this will work just as well with comp armor. make an unlayered glove and see waht the base is (well say 50% for the sake of argument)

so youll need 30% kinetic from your layers to reach this. three 5%base/5%kinetic layers would do the trick

hmm, I'm almost purely a ubese crafter so I'm not fully experienced with composites totally whacked experimenting setup. But since kinetic is special in wookiee armor, wouldn't that mean the base from layers wouldn't add to kinetic?

The way I thought it works was I figured to bring 66% kinetic 52% base wookiee armor to 80% kinetic 80% energy I thought would require 1 kinetic layer with say 3% base and 14% kinetic (66+14=80%), and then two energy layers each with 3%base and 10% energy (52% + 3% +3% +3% + 10% +10% = 81%).

Or does base on layers add to special in composite as well as base? Like I know with composite with kinetic layers, the kinetic is moved to special, but I figured the base in layers added to the kinetic still simply because it started out in base.

Since Kinetic is a special resist you can increase the kinetic resistance by experimenting on the special resistance bar on both the segment and the armor. Hence, there is no need to use kinetic layers if your base is high enough. I used three stun layers 4% Base 9% Stun and then experimented up the Kinetic in the segment. End result: 28% Stun 80% Kinetic 65% Base.

The thing is...You can make great Hunter armor with pretty much crappy recorces! Well, meaning stuff less than 1500 OQ/SR...much less at that. Mine is 80Kin maybe 60Base. I know know peeps can do better than this...so shoot me lol.

sredni: wook armor is funny like this - so is comp. unlike ubese where the only way to increase kinetic is to pump it with max kin layers, experimenting the base% will increase BOTH the base and the special protect (kin for hunting armor and elec for comp). i beleive this resist stacking is only present on comp and hunting armor, but then again i may be wrong becasue i rarely getto make any of the lesser suits. your math works out just fine, both my way and yours would yeild 80%, but i guess devs want to keep us on our toes and make each suit of armor have different rules of experimentation

garnax: thats very true. ive yet to toy around with stun, but i imagine 4% base layers of anything will bring the kinetic high enough to max it via experimenting special protect on segments/final combine
