Thread: Estimating overall HAM on suit from glove HAM???
Message Edited by oiyan on 04-26-2004 10:52 PM
Based on a limited number of suits, I found these relations:
Health Encumberance Suit = 3.42 x Health Encumberance Gloves + 609
Action Encumberance Suit = 1.85 x Action Encumberance Gloves + 594
Mind Encumberance Suit = 3.12 x Mind Encumberance Gloves + 585
No idea how generally applicable these relations are though.

Sorry to say, basically this aspect of the game and HAM cost is, and are rigged. There really is no way around lowering the HAM cost even after conservative efforts have been made throughout the process to keep the HAM as low as possible.
It basically comes down to;
-Any set of armor above and including Padded (some lower ones too) you will never be able to lower the HAM cost to a normal amount that any NORMAL character could, and can wear. Even attempting to do so only ruins the armors defensive values (to the point where no one would want to wear it anyway), and at what can only be described as a PATHETIC reduction in HAM cost. Like a Max of 25-30 points lower on a Chest Plate or something out of 250 to 220.
So, as you need a buff to wear armor anyway, you might as well just forgo trying to reduce the HAM cost as this aspect the developers have rigger for their personal DOCTOR characters to have something to do, and stay the main focal point of the game.
Even a 30% standard Composite value across the board Chest Plate will end up with over 230 HAM on health with all spent and all aspects spent to lower it, experimentation, quality of materials, Segments and Segments experimentation all going for LOW HAM. Meanwhile a 80% across the board only ends up with 20-40 more HAM than the one you tried to make with lower HAM costs. Its Rigged.
I mean, we can have Armorsmiths making equipment people can actually use without a Doctors help now can we. What would the Doctors do then
, They would just be Doctors.
Needless to say I was kind of ticked off when I figured this out for myself. Like so many of you I would, and was willing to forgo a huge defensive value for some competent armor that worked and I could actually wear (30-50% values). Unfortunately these <insert colorful remark here> Developers have come to the conclusion that normal characters should not be able to wear any armor. Only Doctors, or people who have gotten help from a Doctor should wear armor in their opinion.
So in conclusion I would like to say to all those people out there blaming the Armorsmiths for all the HIGH HAM armor sets. Its not US, it’s the Developers doing it, and it’s the Developers doing it based on what Doctors can do. HAM costs are basically FIXED an cannot be manipulated like Armor Values.
I’m making one or two more sets of armor then dumping the class. There is no creativity in this Armorsmithing, it all comes out the same as everyone else’s armor, cost too much, takes up too much time, and is boring.
Buff happy Developers, one more thing you have ruined in the game, Thanks…..
a few quick notes on the last post...
first, read the description of composite. then tell me you're going to complain again about the HAM costs. it says right in the description that it's heavy, (even says it's the heaviest i think).
second, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard at all to get a chest plate at 30% under 230 ham. I would do one if it weren't such a big waste of my time and resources. Currently, the last run of armor I did was 233 ham on the chest plates, tripple layered for 79% kinetic resists with 60% base. I thought it was high too... if I could drop all 3 layers, and focus ONLY on ham, i'm sure I could get it to under 200.
third, check out ubese and chitin. they work great for grinding, and usually are around 300/300/300 or so, and cheap as hell. composite isn't the only armor people can wear.
fourth, I use my enc. sliced suit of composite without buffs all the time. As a BH, I dont even bother with getting buffs, and I can easily kill marks with over 10k ham without dying or getting to half ham even (out of 700). Buffs are only mandatory if you're hunting tons of creatures, really hard creatures, or PvPing. even in those situations, they aren't mandatory, as I've seen many an unarmored and unbuffed rifleman take out a buffed and armored opponent.
fifth, I'm glad you're leaving because you've probably spent only a few days or hours as an armorsmith, and with such a negative outlook on the profession, you'll only be a nusance. Leave armorsmithing to those who enjoy figuring it out, and go back to killing stuff.
Ok, I'm done ![]()
sorry, I didn't answer the original post.
I dont have a value like these other guys do, but if you look at your gloves (mine are like 40/38/41) then you will be able to tell the base values on all your other armor.
For Example:
arms and gloves will all be those same stats.
boots are really close, with maybe 1.5 action? haven't looked into it.
Chest will be something like 6 times the health, 2 times the action, and 1 times the mind
Helm is health, action, and like 7 times mind
legs are like 2,3,1
these are rough numbers, but you'll see that if a piece (chest) is health ham heavy, then the opposite (mind) will be the same as gloves. I dont really add up my hams until the end though... I know by looking at the segments and the layers I put into them what the ham will turn out to be... the more sets you make, the more comfortable you will become with guessing based on layers and segments, and eventually you wont need those silly formulas to guess suit weight, you'll just know
good luck man
