Hello Armorsmiths. I am planning on becoming an armorsmith. Im am planning on trying to be a good armorsmith and Im not just grinding it for a holo. I have started dropping harvestors for grinding resources and I have a bunch of armor shards and layers from when I was addicted to killing Night Sisters. My question is what armor shards and layers are worth keeping? I have layers with +10 effectivess to +3 efffectiveness and shards that lower encumberance. Do good aromorsmiths use this stuff? I have alot of them and I need to figure out what to keep and what to get rid of because I have too much. Im at the very begining of learning the ins and outs and a little advice from experienced players would be awesome. Thanks alot.

All nighsister items have a use in armour crafting - thankfully.

The layers are sometimes a bit less desirable than the shards, however making unlayered armour enhanced with NS layers can be a very useful suit in itself. If you need to add stun layers to your armour for instance, it wont leave any room for NS layers, but thats a choice you can make at the crafting stage.

Shards (no matter how small the negative numbers are) reduce the encumbrance without affecting any of the resists (a common problem with the resist based enhancers is that they move the resists into the less desirable special resist category) so always have a use to a greater or lesser degree.

The NS layers can be very nice indeed. I've seen NS gloves and boots that have 0 action encumbrence from using them. They also can improve the base more than stardard layers if they are good. I'm planning to us NS layers in the RIS suit I'm working on making.

Keep them, i made some padded armor with 0 action encum using shards and 2 layers per segment.

The shards will only improve armor while the layers wil replace your craftable layers which may be better depending on your goals.

Also remember that for armor pieces that require more than one segment you have to make a factory schematic of the first segment. So for a comp chest piece that uses 4 segments you need 5 identical shards an 5 identical layers for one piece. A full suit of comp can use up to 70 layers and around 30 shards.
