Im looking to get a REALLY good suit of padded armour. Im currently wearing an excellent suit of comp but the enc is so high even a buff only reaches 1500-2k!Ive heard that with Rancor Segs you can get 80 Heat/Cold 60% Baserate. Ive also heard people talking about nightsister shards, are they any better? Im not an armoursmith, the only suit i evr made was of bone (not bad actually :smile

.Can anyone also reccomend a good helmet? Padded ones look ridiculous (a balaclava with a plate balanced on it...). Id rather have it match and have a low-ish HAM drain, than great resistance. Also could you tell me good components for that as well (doesnt matter how rare, only need enough for a helmet :smile.
.And finally, could any really ace farstar armoursmiths leave their name?
P.S. I never PvP so even things like cold are valuable to me, I am a commando though, so a good base rate (nades, blast especially) is essential.

Kind of new to Armorsmith myself, but I can help a little here. Padded can be very good when made properly. I know because I had a suit of padded at one time.A lot ofpeople will tell you that comp is the way to go, but having had both suits, I can tell you I definitely noticed the difference in recharge rates between my padded and the comp armor. The other thing I wanted to tell you here is that Nightsister shards add nothing to resists, but people get them because they lower the encumberance. My recommendation is to cover the vunerabilities as much as possible and get the resists up with layers and segment enhancers to go in adv padded. Then have the smith experiment on encumberance.

My best recommendation is to go with a Ubese or a Tantel helm.

I'd find a smith on your server that can make 80kin/51+ base padded and ask them to use ngihtsister shards in the pieces that take only one segment (gloves, bracers, boots). You can get a large ham break from relatively few shards this way. You will need 6 shards that do not have to match in any way, shape, or form for this.
I'd recommend using some nice shards (you will need 4 matching) in a composite helm to compliment the restof the padded suit. Ask the smith to experiemnt the kin layers for the helm so that they put 6 points in base, 5 in encum and one in special. Then have them max base on the segment and put the rest into encumbrance. The result should be a helm that is 80 kin 65+ base and has 270ish (no ns shards) or less (with nice shards) mind encum preslice. To test if thesmith will be able to accomplish this, they should be a 12-pointer and should be making 80kin/71+ base composite normally.
If you have a set of 5+ matching shards and a set of 4+, you can also have the chest and legs of the padded suit lightened. You use a lot of shards for a little gain this way, so do it last.

For my own suit I have a mid green/black pads combination and I use a black composite helm which looks nice, does
mean I have to take brandy and canape's to keep my mind ticking over but it's more than worth it. Tantel helms don't
have that much protection so I'm happy with that situation.

Ease up, the guy asked for general recommendations on padded before he asked about smiths on his server. The first part was on topic...

Nice point, and when i said low enc helmet i didnt really mean high enc. And that link is just stupid. I hate said person for placing said link. I was just asking for someone to reccommend someone on farstar. Not organising a buy.

Its really okay, you can say, "I hate AtPlay for placing the link that says this isnt a trade forum." My feelings wont get hurt in the least.
See, here's the problem...there are 26 servers (including Test). Can you imagine what this forum would be like if people from every server came here looking for Armorsmiths from their respective server? When you click on the Armorsmith forum it states, "The purpose of this board is for any discussion about the armorsmith profession." Notice, it doesnt talk about how to find an armorsmith on your server.
I was fine until that one reference asking for an AS.

Now, I play with Rancor Padded Armor Segments all the time. Usually, with ones that have 20%base, you are looking at padded that ends up in the upper 40s with base, 30%heat (depending on what the segment has), high cold, and most importanly...LOW HAM! The set I wear has in the low 300s for HAM.
If you can find really nice segments, then you can get really high base. I used some 46%base segments and ended up having a base of 70%(energy, kinetic, electricity).

Interestingly enough and on topic. Someone just got some 58% base rancor padded segments (5 of them) on Farstar, am wondering what kind've base results you can get on Padded with them puppies. I'll be AS soon enough myself and want to get in on the padded scene!

How does padded differ from composite?
Composite - 70% base, 38% stun (Vuln LS)
Padded - 51% base, 25% stun, 18% blast(Vuln LS, acid, and heat)
Rancor padded armor segments help, but you still get acid and stun vulnerabilities. I had 44% base rancor segments (exceptional) and got 65% base, 80%, cold 80%, heat, 18% blast, vuln acid and stun.
Padded armor can be a better version of ubese with higher base, This would be good for a PvE suit. 78% kinetic/51% base.
With NS layers you still have vuln to acid, heat, and stun.
Padded armor is only good if you dont fight a rifleman/carbineer/pistoleer/BH/commando/swordsman/pikeman/fencer. So pretty much everyone. PvE is could be very good.

hmmm... Well i wont bother with padded then if its rubbish in PvP.
