There are many ways to get started. I grinded AS mostly by making standard core bone armor and selling it for cheap in MI and Bestine. (Double exp week I did the traditional grind...heh.)But yes, I have found a market for less than optimal armor and am doing very well while I wait for the proper resources to spawn for better. My segments are generally 890-920 with the final product coming in at around 56-5700 for battle, 65-6700 kinetic for assault, and 6700 energy for recon.
As for selling, you have to know what other AS's on your server are selling and what they are charging for it. Some guy on our server has perfect unlayered armor for 600k per set- so I do my prices based on that as the standard with an eye on the competition.
Since most of the uber AS's are doing specialty armor (RIS, faction, bh, etc) I have found there are plenty of people who need decent grind suits. Good luck.

I know these sound like stupid newb questions, but I recently respeced to master armoursmith (then looked over the forums) and I'm almost ready to open my buisness.
