Thread: Will the craft in AS be lost with new combat rebalance, is only loot now important?

For those who have not seen the mando piece:

http://www.freepgs.com/bigchiplan/swg/dw17.jpg

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=TestCenter&message.id=73424

My concern is with the statement made on page 2 of the TC thread:

TheRealTK421 wrote, "I was concerned about this too....but fear not. You do not need to bring any usual items (tools, resources, etc.) with you. If you have the parts needed to make the stuff, you're good to go."

As aestablished AS on my server,I am sort of let down by that, basicaly it implies that any master AS/DE or whatever profession needed to craft a piece of this armor can be used. The time investment of manyAS in aquiring just the right resources and learning thier craft as to what resource and stats to use to make a certain stat layer that combines into a certain stat segment that results in a desired final craft is not taken into consideration. The key factor in the quality of the armor then appears to be the quality of the loot items used. Basicaly any old AS will do.

If resource made armor is nerfed hard in the upcoming combat rebalance and then all the emphasis switches to "loot" drops, I worry for the health and well being of the AS profession.

Are we going to have to participate in marathon combat/quests to make decent armor, or buy the "loot" items from hunter players at absurd prices?

Thunderheart wrote, " No the drop rate for Giant Dune Kimogila scales will not be increased. RIS armor is equivalent to "epic quest" armor and as such, the drop rate is one of the only ways to control difficulty. RIS armor is meant to be this difficult to aquire. Because the carious changes since launch, it certainly doesnt semm that RIS is epic armor, but after the combat balance, all of these details will make more sense."

I am guessing this quote is hinting that Epic quest armor will not be nerfed in the same manner as composite. Ok fine, I actually dont have a problem with special armor being special. But, look at RIS

As of right now the cost of RISoutwieghs the usefulness.Even if RIS is not Nerf and resource made armor such as composite is, who is going to pay 50+ mil for a suit of RIS that is going to fall apart after a week or two of full time use?

So while after the rebalance special loot made quest armor such as RIS and Mando may very be the only armor with 80% resists, who is going to be foolish enough to risk it in combat? If players lose thier grinding composite armor they wont be replacing it with Mando or RIS, the cost vs payout would never be met.

One final point, who is going to make Mando armor and sell it? I believe it will only be the few extremely wealthy AS that have 100+mil to throw into forum loot items that will actually be able to make this on thier own. But if I spend 4+ mil for a piece of 90% BH armor, hire 30 other players to come in with me (all who are going to burn through a suit of composite in the process), spend 4 hours in the DWB and get a crit on my crafting I just lost a ton of money and wasted a butt load of time. If I dont get a crit, I am then going to have to find a buyer andhave tocharge around 50+ mil just to cover my costs for that 1 piece of armor I made.... looks like the guilds then are the only ones who are going to be viable when it comes to this process.

My question is why should I even bother, there is no crafting skill involved, just "loot", money and time. I feel the ASprofession is pretty much having a death nail driven in if my suppositions are correct.

This little blurb of your statement outlines why the Armorsmith will still be around. Unfortunately, when the epic level of armor surpasses that of crafted goods, our egos get a little bruised, case no longer can we 'create' the best stuff, and that is a hard thing to accept.

I don't see armorsmiths being the ones to pay to get people to go with them to make Mando, in order to sell it at 50+mil a suit. On the contrary, I see BH, Commandos and such hiring us to go with them! I would easily providesuits of armor for a group, plus my services as an AS/Pistoleer/Smugglerto go down there, stay alive, and make a couple pieces for someone else in exchange for 5mil (mycut of50mil). Seems like a pretty good deal to me.A few of these trips, and i could easily afford another 2 experimentation points (since Mando doesnt take experimentation, I would be just as marketable for this)

If all comp armour is nerfed at the same rate, then the price wont have to change for it, just the stats will be lower. If it costs 600k for a max base comp now, it will cost 600k for a max base comp later - only the base will have changed.

Untrue.

People may be willing to pay 500k now for a set of comp because the advantage it brings is awesome.

If the benefit they get from it diminishes, their willingness to spend top cash to acquire it will too.

But armor currently sell for too much anyway so that's not such a big issue...

I would be really surprised if you get 50mil to get down there. That armor doesn't requires anyhigh qualityresources that you may have anddoesn't requires experimentation. What will happen is that any newbie who just finished grinding his MAS will most likely accept to go for much less than 5mil. Second situation will be all the guilded armorsmith that exist solely as alt characters to supply guildies with armors, will most likely go again to make it for nothing.

If they would have integrated the concept of experimentation in those armor, it would have been a nice opportunity for dedicated AS to prove themselves and have a nice part finally in quests and dungeons.

Do you guys wear your own composite? There's no way you're going to 'burn through' a set of composite armor by going into a place once. You'd have to be fighting 24 hours a day for like 5 weeks to actually damage your armor 'that' much.

Yes I do.

it doesn't wear out that quick if you doing missions.

But if you tanking Krayt or NS elders or fighting in geno cave for hours in a row it does take a serious hit....

I recon my 80% comp chestplate once lost 9k durability in a 2h Krayt hunting session and that was only tanking like 8 Canyon Krayt for the group ...

Here's a thread with good information on how the items are crafted in the first place. Doesn't seem to me to be possible to fail unless you use more than the timer allows or forget to press "continue" every now and then.

Anyway, feels like a big letdown, not really crafting, but rather direct conversion of a looted item.

You charge too damn much anyway..(I AM A MAS, so keep your flames in your pocket, I know what comp costs to make)

Actually, that's quite possible. It depends on what you're fighting against.

You are kidding right? I tend to repair (or at least attempt to repair)the bulk parts of my PVE kinetic comp every 2 to 3 days. Saying that i am a Swordsman and spend most of my timetanking againstthe toughest mobs on the game (Krayts/Elders/Geo/DWB).

There have been a coupletimes when i have burnt through a whole set of comp within one buff session - A very nice Krayt hunt in which the Ancients just kept spawning saw me go through a set of comp and half a set of ubese - but fortunately it doesnt happen often. Saying that i can wholly see myself going through a set of comp in a single trip to the DWB, the SBD's and BD'smay not hit as hard as the corvette ones but they damn sure can take a kicking and the respawn rate is insane so you quite often find yourself surrounded.

ah yes armor can be destroyed that fast, first 3-5 times going up on the corvette reducedmy entire suit down to 0, yes the reason is from dieing lots, but i noticed, my chest plate go down 10k while i was tanking for long time, and i hadnt died, ..yet..but once i did condition took big hit, go try tanking all hard creatures, i talked to a tkm who says he goes through a suit of comp a week from tanking krayts

Hrm, I find this surprising as I have used the same set of 70-80% comp for the last 2 months or so...
